Embarrassing/stupid question... I need to replace my main wireless router and in another part of my house I setup an old Asus wireless router as a wireless bridge. I did this years ago and for the life of me I can't remember how to get into the DD-WRT Asus router acting as the wireless bridge to modify its settings???

Thanks

Go into the router firmware...there should be a setting there and change it from AP to Bridge. Access it through Internet Explorer and it usually a 192.168.X.X or something similar for the web address.

For my Linksys it is... 192.168.1.1

If you don't know the router's address check the manual, Asus's website, or even just Google it.

The Bridge Router has to be connected on its own to a computer via wire connecting the computer's NIC to a regular port on the Wireless Router.

The computer's NIC has to be set with a static IP of the same sunbet as the Router.

E.g., if the Router's core IP is 192.168.1.1 set the computer to 192.168.1.10

Type into the Computer browser the IP of the Router and it should be able to connect to its menus.

If you get the main Router it means that the IP of the bridge is different from what you use.

Since it is connecting correctly to the main Router, download and run this free program.

http://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/

It should tell you the specific IP of each component on the Network.

Then use the IP that is assigned to the Wireless bridge.

Thanks Jack..loading that program behind my wireless bridge helped me see it. Funny ...from my router I do not see devices behind this access point. On to my second problem...remembering the password to the DD-WWRT router.... rats!

Anyone have a recommendation for "saving" my router settings??? I see over the past 4 years I have created static for some devices, done some port forwarding and other things....This will be a mess starting over....

I have the Dlink DIR-655 but I don't see a way to save my settings....

Thanks for any suggestions...

I do not know DIR-655, most Router do have a way to save a file with the setting.

Other take Screen Shots of the Menus that their entries were change from default and save a set of JPGs in a zip file.

You should be able to reset the router to the firmware default (which is a router, not a bridge) using the reset button on the back of the router, it should reset the password to the default ddwrt password as well.
