how to flash my bios?

i just bought an asus p4p800 deluxe mobo and i see that there are already several bios updates available. the problem is the auto update utility that came with the mobo does not work and i am not experianced in making floppy boot discs or useing them with xp pro. the instructions on how to do this seem to assume that the user already has some experiance. could someone walk me through the procedure step by step plz or link me to a help site that i can use?

The thing to be most careful of is to reset the bios settings to defaults before flashing the new bios.

Even though the P4P800 has "Crash Free BIOS 2", the 1006 update actually updates the bios boot-block (where the Crash Free code resides), so if it goes bad, no recovery is available. I had this happen and it killed my board. Normal bios updates don't touch the BIOS boot block, so Crash Free Recovery is available (just not on 1006).

I just got the new board and this is how I flashed from the stock 1005 to 1007:

1. Go into the BIOS setup and restore default settings. Save and power off (not reboot - a hard power off).

2. Power on with a bootable dos disk (I used an XP boot disk) with the 1006 update file on it. Run P4P1006.exe to update the bios. Hope like hell it works!

3. Power off after the update is complete and verified. Power on and go into BIOS setup. Restore default settings again. Save and power off.

4. Power on with a bootable dos disk with AFUDOS.exe and P4P1007.ami on it. Run "AFUDOS /iP4P81007.AMI".

5. Power off after the update is complete and verified. Power on and go into BIOS setup. Restore default settings again. Now you can change any settings you require.

6. Now make a disk with the file "P4P81007.AMI" on it, but rename the file to "P4P800.ROM". Write protect the disk and keep it safe. This will be your BIOS Recovery Disk to use in case of a failed BIOS update or corrupt BIOS. It will restore you to 1007.

BTW, I had a regular P4P800 which I tried to flash the bios on and it died. I didn't power down after flashing. I think there was a problem with the bios chip more than anything else. I rma'd it back to googlegear and asked if I can upgrade to the P4P800 Deluxe while I was at it and they said sure.

I'm running the Deluxe board now and playing with IDE raid since I have a bunch of spare hd's. The board is great.
