How to get my parents to get the IS300 or GS400/430?

My parents are pretty set on getting the lexus rx-300 (which i dont want since every asian mom in walnut creek california has one). Don't see why in hell you need a SUV in a city where there are no mountains and the roads are in perfect condition. Hell the farthest she travels is costco... Parents can spend about 35,000 for a car and I'd rather they bought the is300 or a gs400/430 (dad had a connection with lexus that could've gotten him a 5,000 mile 2000 GS-400 for 30,000$ but my mom sent it back cuz she didn't really like the design), or the BMW 3 series. Parents care a lot about how the car looks (hell, mom sent back the gs-400 cuz she thought it was "ugly", which it was since it was pearl white), but also are pretty set on getting a lexus (their asian friends have them convinced lexus has the best bang for the buck in the world right now). Any suggestions, I hated when we bought our mazda mpv in 95 and we looked just like everyone else. Don't want that to happen again

If you don't want to look like everyone else, better not get a GS. I see those everywhere. The 3- or 5- series BMW's are nice. I see them everywhere, too, but that's just because I live close to the factory.

I tried to get my mom to get the BMW 325Ci or the sedan but she thinks BMW's are too expensive for their performance. Even though BMW recently set records or something for sales this past year she thinks everyone would rather buy a mercedes instead of a BMW... There are hardly any GS-series cars in our area. It's all BMW convertibles, lexus rx-300's, and mercedes sedans. Couple IS300's at our school but that's cuz they kick ass

Have you tried telling her that she'd look like every other asian out there and that SUV's guzzle gas like mad? If your mom is a typical asian mom (ie short) she probably likes the SUV because it makes her feel bigger (at least that's what my mom says)

the rx costs a lot less then then the is300 and a lso alot alot less then a gs430. maybe thats why.

dude it looks freaking niiiiiice. the only cars that look anywehre near as good as that car are bmw 3 series and m3's and a few mercedes

i was looking through kbb.com and autotrader and the IS300 used are a couple thousand less then the rx-300 used. Or pretty much the same. My mom's excuse for not wanting the is300 is that it looks "too much like a wagon"... maybe cuz they have a IS300 wagon mom... heh. SHe said the sedan looks like a wagon too. I asked her what she thought about the BMW 3-series cars and she says "mercedes is better then BMW's, that's why everyone buys em". I think i'm going to shoot her...

Well, my mom apparently has her mind set. One question though. I asked her about the acura mdx, and she said she didn't like it because the paint job is bad or something. Apparently my entire family went to a car show (without me) and the mdx they looked at had a messed up paint job. Was that a one time thing or is this common among the mdx's?

Yeah, except for some reason my mom thinks it's ugly Our friend let us borrow a GS-300 2000 (or 99, forgot) and my mom drove it all around. Liked the car but she also likes the rx-300 as much as the gs. Just thinks the rx looks better and so she wants it more.

If your mom says that a hot deal on a GS is out because it's ugly, there's no convincing I can do. I'm sure the IS is out because it's tiny and impractical compared to an RX300.

I'm in the same boat, but my story goes like this:

My parents are pretty set on getting the late 70's model eL Camino (which I dont want since every white trash mom in the trailer park has one). Don't see why in hell you need a nice car like that to sit on blocks all day in the front yard. Hell the farthest she travels is Bingo and the Piggly Wiggly... Parents can spend about 350 for a car and I'd rather they bought the Ford Festiva or a pick 'em up truck (dad had a connection with Ford, that could've gotten him a 250,000 mile 1982 Escort for 300$ but my mom sent it back cuz she didn't really like the ashtray), or the Chevy Nova (4 door model). Parents care a lot about how the car looks (hell, mom sent back the station wagon cuz she thought it was "too sophisticated", which it was since it had a luggage rack), but also are pretty set on getting a Camino (their kissing cousin friends have them convinced Chevy has the best bang for the buck in the world right now). Any suggestions, I hated when we bought our Dodge mini van in 86 and we looked just like everyone else getting free cheese. Don't want that to happen again

No, really. To me, the IS300 looks like a riced out Civic. I don't know how they could've produced such a hideous car. Then again, I don't really like how any of the Lexus cars look like...
