I decided to use Resolve to clean out my couch real well as once in a while I still get a nasty whiff of cat puke (she pukes on it all the time, pretty nasty) and while I do clean it I guess I was not cleaning it well enough, so I decided to use resolve which is mostly made for carpet but figured it might work well for the couch. The couch is like a faux leather but it's not the "water proof" type.

Now I can't get that resolve smell out, it's a really irritating smell. I tried baking soda, I tried vinegar, no go. I just can't get rid of that smell anymore. Anything else I can try short of replacing the cushions?

Try using a hand held spot shampooer, which is what you probably should have done in the first place rather Or just burn it. Sounds like you've put it through the ringer.

Air dry, maybe try putting a fan in front of it to get some airflow on it. Use those spot cleaners on my couch and the smell goes away after a short while.

Febreze often leaves a smell too, though, it does fade away after a while. I don't have any here but I'll have to try it. I have fans on it now, I'll try to air dry idea and see if it works.

I recommend cat puke. It's got to be stronger than the resolve smell. You have to understand that whether I recommend it or not, the cat will soon be by to make it's deposit in the form of vomitus ejectus anyway. So what I'm saying is, this situation will <insert sungrasses.gif here> resolve itself.

Ok so air did not work, think I'll have to rent a shampoo cleaner and try that. I don't really want to put it outside in the snow either though I did hear that putting it in direct sun light could help, but, you need sun light.

After all what I did to it, it's clean in the sense that there's no dirt/puke in it anymore, it's just that I can't get rid of that damn resolve chemical smell.

I put a whole whack of baking soda and worked it in with a dry cloth and going to let it sit for a few days then vacuum it.

Worse case scenario I'll have to see if I can get new cushions. But, I can't get new cushions every time my cat pukes on it either unless I can buy them in bulk because I'd be changing them a couple times a week.

She just puked again today but hit up the dining room chairs and table this time. Freaking nasty. I use a disinfectant made for mold and sewer backup but it still feels like I did not clean it well enough. I really wish I could figure something to make her stop doing that. Or at least to make her stop going in those places.

Some strays we took in ruined my living room set from the three couches/chair to the nice area rug. I put it on the curb last weekend for Monday for trash pickup. People moved them around but no one took them.

I tried steam / hot water extractors, etc...the stuff was ruined.

What are you feeding your cat? Maybe a better solution is to try and find out why the cat is puking all the time. My mother used to feed the cat these cat treats that the cat would shortly afterwards puke up. I asked her why she kept feeding them to her and she answered that the cat really liked them.

My mother was elderly and in very poor health. That was her excuse, what's yours?

Yeah, cats shouldn't puke constantly. Usually a sign of food allergies or over eating both are usually due to inferior diets.

I've tried all sorts of food, the one she's on now is "Natural Instinct duck and turkey meal" and makes her puke the least but she still pukes. I tried wet food too as it's supposedly better but she puked more often and it was that much more vile to cleanup. I use a foot rotator type bowl now too but I'm not sure if that's helping much, she'll sometimes let the food sit there then suddenly go gulp it down anyway. I think the key is to put her on a schedule which that thing is kinda suppose to do but she still eats sporadically. Sometimes barely sometimes too much.

I've spent a couple grand at the vet on all sorts of tests but they could not find a reason why she pukes so much. Next step was Xray to see if there's something stuck in her stomac but vet doubts it as it would have probably caused more issues by now. That was a couple grand right there if I wanted to go ahead with it but I don't think it's worth trying.

Wonder if they'll let me put her through the xray machine at the airport if I go at night when there's nobody there. They do call airport security CATSA after all... lol

Vacuumed up the baking soda off the couch, I don't trust my cat, she'll probably lick it or something and it's going to make her puke again. That might be why she puked in first place while I was gone.

I also learned something very interesting about baking soda. It generates static electricity like there's no tomorrow. I was a walking van degraff generator while vacuuming that stuff up. I probably should have stopped and grounded myself but kept going. Blew two sensors on my hvac system. Either the sensors, or the sensor board. Fun fun...

...and sensors work again, reset whole system and unplugged and replugged sensors. That was odd. Can almost guarantee it was the static though, one of the sensors is the one near where I was vacuuming and the other is directly on the hvac and the line passes near the vacuum lines. (central vac). Who would have thought vacuuming could mess up an hvac system.

And with all that, the chemical smell came back GAH! Though I might be smelling it from the dining room chair I had to use the stuff on... I really have to find a better stuff for upholstry, that stuff just has a really irate smell to it.

The smell does typically go away on it's own so maybe I just need to give it several days considered I sprayed the whole couch and not just a small spot. Never doing THAT again. I'll rent a shampooer next time I think... Probably not a bad idea to shampoo all upholstery once in a while anyway.

Step 1 Get rid of that nasty cat.
Step 2 Get new furniture.
Step 3 get a real pet like a dog.
