I'm actually with you on this. I am no longer confident in a cops ability to tell the difference between a wallet and a gun. When you add that to their increasing tendency to shoot your ass even when you follow orders, such as this shooting, I'm staying in the car with my hands on the wheel until they cuff my ass.

There is a new technology out there that as soon as a cop touches his sidearm the body cameras of all police in the area begin recording. Unfortunately, that does nothing to assist STUPID in realizing what they are about to do is STUPID and so STUPID continues.

The video clearly shows the guy looks like he has a gun.

This should be moved to P/N, though.

Unreal, basic COMMON-SENSE should have told the cop that if was exiting the vehicle with the intent of shooting he would have fired at cop as soon as he gets the door open. Even worse is the courts ruling that
"Officer Hancock was cleared of all wrongdoing in the incident, as a court found that he had not infringed on Davidson's constitutional rights and that the officer used 'reasonable' force."
..Huh?, shooting a deadly weapon at a guy with a wallet in his hand was "reasonable force"?, I can't believe they lost in court and this guy who had to live through the horrifying experience of being gunned down is NOT entitled to a chunk settlement?. OK, honest, DUMB mistake, but NOT one which should see that person's pain+suffering swept under the rug.

Uh, NO. I enlarged to full-screen and it looks like a WALLET plus the cop's bullets start flying AFTER he has spread his arms up high so AGAIN, if his intent was to try and shoot the cop he would have already fired. This guy needs to be fired before he kills someone by "accident".

Not exactly. The way his hands are togetherish is similar to how handguns are generally held, but to say that it looks like he has a gun is not that accurate.

Lol I don't understand the cops in these situations, the guy is barely out of the car for a second and he starts shooting. Did the cop arrive at the scene with his weapon drawn and if so why?? The mind reels.

It sucks to get shot, and I don't want to make it sound like the suffering of another human being doesn't matter.

But WHAT THE FUCK was he thinking? Act all spastic, immediately get out of your vehicle, have something black in your hand, grab the black item with both hands?

I knew better than this when I was about six. How many bright lights and loud sounds does it take to convince a person to take a serious situation seriously?

What's important is not how it looks now, but how it looked then. Cops don't have time to discuss it with the committee or submit it to the booth. You also have to factor in the foolish behavior...if you have to judge the situation in one second, guy looked like he was on drugs and was about to shoot. So many things he could have done differently, yet didn't.

This. Hind sight is 20/20,but put yourself in that situation in real time with your life potentially on the line if you're wrong. I'm not justifying it, just saying.

Other people's lives, too. If a drug-crazed moron shoots a cop and gets back on the highway, a lot more people could be hurt or killed.

Yeah its really getting just sad now, i literally treat cops like 5 year olds now when i deal with them, just to ensure i dont get shot.

If i get pulled over it goes something like this:

ALWAYS STAY IN THE CAR

Officer walks to window and asks for licence and registration/proof of insurance
I reply im going to get my wallet from my back right pants pocket using my right hand, and do so very slowly
Then i respond that im going to reach for my insurance paperwork in my glove box with my right hand very slowly, i usually pause after i open the glove box and verbalize that im reaching into it for the insurance paperwork before i do it.
If he asks me to do/get anything else i always let him know in advance where it is, and which limb ill be using to get it. Always leaving other hand in plain sight gripping the steering wheel at all times.
If he asks me to exit the vehicle ill do so by reaching through the window with both arms/hands, operating the door from the outside with both hands in plain sight, open the door and step out with both arms still through the doors window. Ill then inform him im going to step back and place both my arms on the roof above the back door, and wait for further instructions.

This usually goes very well, the last cop that pulled me over actually made a comment that i was very professional about it and asked if i had any law enforcement background.

The only time i had any issues was one time when i was going shooting up on a old logging road, got stopped at a road block on the way there, and had 4 rifles in a duffel bag in the middle of the back seat beside a crate of ammunition, both clearly in plain sight.

The officer told me to open the bag and remove the rifles for him to inspect, i refused. I told him i was more than happy to wait for him to call another officer to the scene so he could open it himself and have someone to cover him but there was no way i was reaching into a duffel bag and pulling out a rifle with a cop behind me, especially since he had zero cause to search my vehicle in the first place and i considered it to be an illegal search. He choose to let me go on my way and never opened the bag of rifles after confirming that my Firearms license was indeed authentic. I believe the only reason he wanted to see the rifles was because he assumed i was also taking my Pistols out to shoot(common occurrence, even though illegal in canada, the only place we can legally shoot pistols is at the government approved ranges). And i have 2 Pistols registered in my name which im sure came up on his screen when he ran my firearms licence through his system. Its sad but in canada legal firearms owners generally get treated like criminals by the police. This is why i now have a set routine that is carried out like listed above every time i get pulled over now, dont need some trigger happy cop looking at his screen seeing i have firearms in my name and getting carried away. Im not going to be a statistic.
