How to get Windows XP Pro to remember login and password automatically?

Hey all,

I'm wanting my Windows XP Pro to "remember" in the drop down window
where I use a log in name and password to certain websites.

I went to "content" in tools and turned the autocomplete on but it still
doesn't show the info in the drop down window.

I'm sure it was working correctly a while back.....

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Are you talking about in your web browser?

I'm not very familiar with the options in IE for it, but have you tried deleting your temp files and cache?

Yes, in my IE web browser.

I have deleted the temp files and cache and web history and password and the
autocomplete info. It still doesn't "remember" my information after doing this.

Did you clear all of the settings after you enabled it? Sometimes that might do the trick.

I have played with the auto complete function in several different ways but what I
think is the problem is that certain websites like ameritrade and edward jones
must have some kind of blocking built into their webpages so that the autocomplete
function doesn't work as in does other webpages.

tell me your name and pass for those sites and I will let you know if it works on my computer

My FedEx account will save the username but not the password.. but Paypal will do both

Oh, if the page is using SSL encryption sometimes it doesn't save the info. This happens all of the time for me in FireFox with my schools site. It's all in SSL and I ALWAYS have to enter in all my credentials.

It "used" to work with every webpage but I'm guessing that
one of the MS updates has changed it working correctly with
all webpages.

Those things don't work unless you allow cookies. That's where they are stored for websites.

Make sure that under AutoComplete you're letting it save user names and passwords. If you accidentally chose to stop letting IE save your passwords then this might be dissabled - even if other autocomplete functionality remains intact. Internet Options > Content > Auto Complete

If your computer is a member of a domain, it aien't gonna happen. Even if you're not logging on to the domain. Put the computer in a workgroup and you'll see the "remember my password:" check box when you try to access secure sights
