Ok all, so I haven't been to the doctor regularly since I was an infant. I've been a handful of times that I can remember, once for a broken bone, once for mono, but nothing more. I'd like to go for a routine check-up, just to make sure everything is working ok . . . how do I do this? Just call up a doctors office and ask for a check-up? A physical?

Thanks

i don't know whether to laugh, cry, insult you, or give you actual advice. so here is some of each.

/facepalm

how you have managed to get this far in life without stabbing yourself in the face when tying your shoes i do not know.

if you have insurance, check their website to find out who in your area will accept the insurance. then start dialing on that list. say you want a physical (though, iirc, those aren't always covered under insurance, which is ridiculous)

Something tells me he has an itchy spot.

Check your insurance's website or call the customer service number on the back of your card to find a doctor.

Do you have health insurance? If you do, go to their web page or call them up and tell them you need to find a doctor.
Then, after you find one, call the office and make an appointment.
Then, go to the office when you have your appointment.

You'll probably lose an arm and a leg (hur, hur) if you don't have insurance. So the first question to ask, do you have insurance? Go to the website or call them up and tell them you need to do a physical and can they (or you research yourself) recommend a physician or generalist.

1) pick up the phone.

2) call your mommy

3) ask to come home because you are to fucking stupid to live alone.

4)move back in with mommy

Find a doctor that's accepting new patients. Make sure he/her is covered by your insurance. Make an appointment.

Wow you guys are harsh

Just check out your med insurance's web page for a provider directory. Then search for "General/Family Medicine" or something similar.

Of course, if you can't figure out what to do after that, then you deserve everything everyone is dishing out to you

Don't know how you could've gotten this far in life without at least a physical, you need them for a lot of things.

But a regular check up? People normally just go to the doctor to have them say you are alright unless there's an issue you want to discuss with your doctor. Although with the growing rate of prostate and other cancers, probably wouldn't be a bad idea. But as far as weird lumps you would know better then anyone if something is there that shouldn't be.

Do you smoke? Have a family history of any sort of problems? It would probably suit you best to go to a specialist as opposed to a GP if you are concerned about a specific area of your health.

Wooo!! Feeling the love . . .

Honestly, in as long as I can remember I've been to the doctor twice. Once for a broken finger and once when I got mono.

I'm not retarded, at least as far as I know. I suppose since I haven't been to the doctor I could have contracted it somewhere along the line.

I have no oozing, festering, pustulating or any other type of STDs, though again I suppose since I haven't been to the doctor I could be rife with disease.

I don't smoke, and don't have much of a family history of anything.

I do have health insurance, I have been to their website, they do have a list of doctors. The list cuts off at 300. Each listing has a name, address "Specialty" and lists where and when the doctor graduated. Not sure how I'd go about selecting any one of these hundreds of doctors . . .

Soooo, with that I think I've addressed all of you wonderful people's concerns.

Anyways, I guess I'll call around. Hopefully they won't yell at me and call me a retard.

Oh! I almost forgot, I don't want a stranger to finger my ass, but thanks for the offer Tylanner!

Thanks all!

I needed a physical for phlebotomy class.

WalMart has doctors offices. I peed in a cup, she asked me some questions and did a quick physical and I was finished. Less than $100

Highly recommended, unless you are sick, then you should see a real doc.

Go to the nearest practice that's open and fill out the form? Ask for a general workup and a physical, they usually book an appointment for blood work and do the rest on the spot.

I haven't tried for something as useless as a physical, but for actual complaints I've just been going into a walk in urgent care place. All the normal doctors I called wanted to schedule appointments over a month out.

I wouldn't know either as I haven't been to a doctor (or dentist) in 11 years, last time was during high school, though I did show up at a bone and joint clinic one time a few years ago for what turned out to be a sprained elbow. In perfect health- exercise regularly ever since childhood, decent diet, no smoking or drugs and rarely drink. I'm shooting for another 11 years, but would be open to a dental checkup

I think it's the fact that he has NOT stabbed himself in the face that makes him less likely to have seen a doctor
