John,

I can't get the two Primes to take up 100% of my CPU cycles like SP2004 can. Can you give me some advice?

I created a folder called Prime95 on my desktop. I put two shortcuts to the Prime95 program in there. For one of them I went ahead and put the -AT switch in the shortcut's target. I then start both and then choose the affinity, one being 0 and the other being 1. I go ahead and do the custom and put in half the amount of my memory for each one which would be 1024 since I have 2GB. I then start both but it never takes up 100% of the CPU cycles. What am I missing or doing wrong?

Well I can tell you at least one thing you are doing wrong. And that's assigning every single MB of your RAM to Prime95. I'm surprised there wasn't any really wierdness that happened when you did that.

John, I don't have a floppy drive but I want to run Memtest. How can I run it without a floppy drive. I tried the ISO one but it doesn't work for some reason. I tried the USB (used my MP3) one as well but it didn't work too.

Is Orthos a good alternatively to Memtest? I want to test all of my 1GB of RAM though so I guess only Memtest can do that?

You need to burn the mem86+ ISO file as ISO NOT as a data file.

I did burn it as an ISO. I tried doing that twice and it didn't work for some reason. I used Nero StartSmart and used Burn Image To Disc twice. 2 of my CDs and 1 CD-RW has been wasted because it didn't work.

I did unzip it too. Nero saw the ISO file. I burned it using "Burn Image to Disc". It already screwed up one of my CD-RW.

Edit: Nevermind. It was my CD writer that wasn't working proeprly. Wonder why.....

What to run on Windows 2003 Server x64 Enterprise R2? All of them are failing or giving unsupported operating system message.

If I change my ValueRAM from 5-5-5-15 2T to 4-4-4-12 1T, all I need to do is to run memtest to test it for stability right?

I only need to run memtest to test my RAM for stability right? Or should I run Orthos, stress RAM as well?

Edit: I ran Memtest at 5-5-5-15 1T for over 8 hours and got 22 passes and no errors. I also ran Orthos for 3 hours and no errors came up as well. So I've come to the conclusion that my RAM is stable with 1T. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Thanks.

If SuperPi crashes with 'application error' when run as user or admin on Vista 64 but completes fine in safe mode, what does this tell me?

Nice, I'll be building up a new PC soon, will probably run this just to see if it's stable before even starting any overclocking.

I used to use S&M as an alternative, but with the issue of their program reporting failed L1 cache on C2Ds, i haven't bothered with it lately.
Hmm, interesting. Intel just released news of a bug with the L1 cache of C2Ds, something to do with TLBs.
Could S&M have been detecting that issue, or was it an unrelated software glitch? If it can detect that error, then this is huge news!

Thread about the error here

When I'm working on a system for someone or myself, I usually just run BOINC from a folder on a shared folder for a few hours/overnight to test for stability.

Has anyone tried this before?

I just had the same problem. Saw your post ... I tried "Run as Administrator" and it worked ...

Try that maybe?

I just ran memtest

and ran 6 passes on test #5 and got 18 errors, all on the first and second pass on test 5

Timings Divider 133mhz
2.5, 3,3, 7

What should I do to fix this?

After settling RAM timings with Memtest86+ and other tools, I'd formerly run 30 min. SuperPi and then 30 min. OCCT! as pre-tests before Prime95.

However, I'd often pass SuperPi but then fail OCCT!, so in 2005 I abandoned SuperPi altogether.

The 30 minute OCCT! stress test (not its torture test) has served as a better predictor of success in Prime95 than SuperPi had been. At least for me.

So as Rubycon previously mentioned, you might give OCCT! a try if you're not using it yet.
