I tried but doesn't work, it says that supports Intel Pentium M,

The Intel Thermal Analysis Tool supports the following genuine
Intel mobile processors:

Pentium-M (CPUID: 6EX)
Pentium-M (CPUID: 6Fx)
Pentium-M (CPUID: 66X, Extended Model: 1)

The Intel Thermal Analysis Tool supports only Intel chipsets.

but the Chipset Identification Utility cannot recognize mi Chipset neither, and it's a 865PE with a ICH5R, if this utility cannot identify my chipset, probably any Intel utility won't, seems that this combination of 865PE with ICH5R doesn't work with those programs, before I mounted RAID it used to identify it with no problems.

One small advice for OC. Remember about others components of the PC. If CPU+MOBO+RAM works great don't foget about GPU!

I run tests like in guide but after that I start Real Time HDR IBL (and pirme/orthos simultaneously) to stress GPU - to achieve max temps - then the in-case ambient are warmer - so CPU, MOBO, RAM have less comfortable temps to work. Do not forget about your GPU inside! It's a main heat genearator!

here's the link for prime95 25.4 which automatically stresses all 4 cores. i haven't tried any earlier versions.

you can get different prime95 versions for other operating systems here

Wow, nice and convenient. I am building two systems next week (an E2160 and a Q6600) and was ready to do some searching through the forums for the info in this guide. Thanks for putting it all together.

Yeah, don't forget the GPU! I forgot that Prime95 went to the system tray and kept running if you closed it, and then I scanned my GPU for artifacts with ATi Tool, and wow were there artifacts. Like, every two seconds. The card wasn't even that hot, and I was retesting an already determined stable overclock.

I can run Orthos stable for as long as I care to watch the screen, and the 2-threaded prime95 for about 18 hours stable (temperatures go a bit higher than I'd like them to after 12-15hrs of 100% CPU usage, but that's a different concern, need a different CPU cooler).

In any event, if I stop watching Orthos carefully, and just let it run while I'm off, away from the computer or house... the computer hard-locks and won't let me do anything, as though it went into its screen-saver and then just stuck there.

What does this mean? Why does this happen? And for my purposes (gaming, not things like folding@home) does it matter when I can run Prime95 with 2 threads for 18 hours, not watching it, and it doesn't lock up or get mad at me?

I used memtest recently and ran it overnight on default settings, which the ram passed with no errors. But then I put the setting to address all memory and test number 7 fails everytime. Should I be worried about this, should I return the ram?

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but I personally believe that MemTest86 is a pos compared to windows memtest ( http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ )

I had the boot/dos one stable for hours when the windows one errored out in seconds

I tried Orthos for the first time on my burning hot PD 805 and it worked fine. But as I was running the Blend test and looking at the task manager, the PF usage was over 1GB and so I wondered is that normal?

Just moving to Vista 64-bit and 4x1 GB memory with a dual core processor.

What's the recommended stability testing procedure ?

What's confusing me is :

1) Do I use the 32-bit version or 64-bit version of Prime95 ?
2) Memtest+ can only test approx 3.2 GB memory.

Thanks.

Linpack!

This will REALLY put your CPU to metal. Max heat and stress of ANY software you can run, PERIOD. Outside of directing an oxyacetylene torch to your CPU, it will not get hotter. :Q

Hi. Can someone point me to a guide for Memtest86+ that explains how to read the screen? What's the difference between an error and fail? When I ran test #5 for 12 passes, I got 23 errors. After one pass through all default tests, I got 30 errors. Also, in a different pass, test #2 failed. What should I do about this? Sorry for the noob questions, but any help is appreciated.

BTW, I'm running Memtest 'cause I just added 1GB RAM (2x512MB) that I bought on eBay, bringing me up to 2GB.
