Return it to make scewing the consumer unprofitable, and buy music from people who don't take away your fair use rights.

it should also work to hold down the shift key as you insert the disc.

Maybe try Audiograbber? I've used it for a long time and it works good. Don't know if it'll work with the protected CDs but you could try if nothing else works.

If you have a good soundcard and a reasonably fast computer, it does matter.

Can you play the CD on your machine, using the CD Player software? Some cards, like SBLive, have a "What U Hear" recordnig option in their mixer. You could probably record the music to your HD while it plays, especially if it's connected to the soundcard wth a dedicated cable, not just through IDE.

You can also try routing the music to your soundcard via "Line In"... it will be analog, but with good cards you can't tell the difference, anyway.

And in any case you're going to rip the music to MP3, so I don't think audiophile quality is your number one priority.

tried EAC or CDex?
or.. how about analog ripping, by connecting your CD-player line-out to your PC's line-in and then record it with a WAV editor proggie.

First, sue the record companies.

Second, report it to FatChucks, www.fatchucks.com, where there is a list of copy-protected CD's.

Third, does the CD play at all in your computer? If not, look on the back. Where there is music/data on the CD, the disc is lighter. If there are two lighter spots, seperated by a little dark ring, take a marker on the outer dark spot. That is where junk data is stored that might confuse a computer and computer-like CD player.

If you got a fancy enough sound card, you could try hooking a DVD player's fiber of coax out to your computer and digitally record it. You'll need a program that removes silence from a sound file.

Looks like it has copy protection from SunnComm, and when you first run it it installs new drivers to prevent the copying of the CDs. Don't know how you remove these unwanted drivers.

That's why I said to rip it on a mac, windows drivers don't work on macs

I know he doesn't have one, but... could try a linux box
