How to kill a hard drive :(

First off, I'm stupid. Damn stupid

Got a brand new shiny IBM DTLA-307030 hard drive last week... was good, fast & etc. Then I decided to try my new peltier...

...and stupid as I am, connected it to the same power connector as my hard drive. Result = small prick, and hard drive dead. I can even see the burned chip on the controller... thank god that my mobo is still alive & kicking.

So,if anyone has killed his/her DTLA-307030 but the circuit board seems to be OK, could he/she sell it for a couple of beers to me?

Well, I put on a really stupid face and RMAd it today. Now I'll have to wait and see if it goes through

Let this be a lesson - don't ever plug/unplug anything while the computer is turned on. If you connect it wrongly, then you can damage it or other equipment.

Just be aware that if you RMA the drive, they could refuse it. Many manufacturers have a clause that they can refuse a warranty repair if there is visible burning on power-related components.

I know someone who uses a separate power supply just for his pelts and fans.. may be a good idea.
