Network Card bonding has to be done at both the switch and OS/Software level.

It is not something easy nor cheap to do.

Typical switches, routers you buy in stores can not handle such a configuration.

You have to identify your bottleneck before taking this route because if your going out to the internet then bonding 2 10/100 NIC to try and squeeze out more on your 1,2,3 Mbps Cable modem/DSL line isn't going to provide you anymore speed then you already have.

It will end up costing you money in the end

Buy a switch with a gigabit port and install a gigabit NIC into the server. Much easier to get working.

btw this is called "adapter teaming" from what I know, certain nics support teaming up to four together.

Only if the both the adapters you're using as well as your switch support it. Typically referred to as teaming, is also known as trunking, spanning, aggregation, or bonding. You'd need to check the specs on those 3com adapters you're using. I know that the Intel, HP, and Cisco support trunking with their adapters and switches, not too sure about 3com (though I imagine that they do).

Here's a few articles that touch on the basics.

3com adapters have teaming software and it really is easily done. I'm not sure if your 3com NICs are supported, but if you go to 3com's download site and see what's available for your adapter.

This is called 'Etherchannel' by Cisco, 'Trunking' by Sun, 'Bonding' in Linux and I guess teaming in Windows.
