How to make DVD from MPEG?

I've never burned a DVD before. I have Nero 6. I have a 3GB MPG file from video capture, with the audio included in the same file. I want to burn a DVD that will play on a stand-alone DVD player. After some searching, it seems like I might need Nero Vision or TMPGEnc. I don't have either of those. Nero 6 has a setting for creating a DVD, but dropping the .mpg file into the new DVD window didn't seem to work. Any advice appreciated.

GSpot reports the file is mpeg-2 in DVD "VOB" format with an included AC3 audio stream. I ran Nero 6 Ultra to create a new video DVD. When I try to drop the mpg file in the VIDEO_TS directory, Nero complains that the file is > 2GB and can't be added to an ISO file system (?). The file plays fine in WMP or PowerDVD. Changing the extension to .vob didn't help Nero.

You'll have to get a program that will convert it to DVD video. Usually in the VIDEO_TS directory, .vob files are split into 1GB files so you won't be able to put your file on DVD regardless of whether it is a .vob file already or not. TMPgenc XPress I think will allow you to do this. Canopus Procoder will also allow you to do this I believe. I can't think of any more right now.

I'll check into those. Further searching around revealed CopyToDVD from VSO. I renamed the 3.6 GB mpg to a .vob and right-clicked on it, and there were menu options to burn a DVD with CopyToDVD. I haven't tried it on my stand-alone player, but PowerDVD liked it. WinXP could not read the directory structure on this DVD. I'll post an update later when I've tried playing it.

Thanks for the info. I the VSO is a trial version -- I may choose something else later.

I used CopyToDVD to burn the vob to a dvd+r. I was optimistic when it started to play OK in my gf's player. Unfortunately playback stopped dead after about 26 minutes into it. Maybe it just playeed the first gig of the file. I'll see if I can get a trial of TMPgenc. Do you know if DVDfab can break up the big mpeg and construct a proper DVD?

Theres like a million different progs that can do it and a million different methods.... But yeah, you need to make sure the video file is in in DVD file settings(IE. correct audio bitrate/FramesPerSecond/aspect ratio). Then need a program that will compile it into DVD format(ie. ifo/vobs in a VIDEO_TS folder).

The probable reason your nero didnt work is, the video file is not in DVD video specifications. That would be my guess. Also, I would have to say not to ever use nero for dvd related stuff. At least, I never would.

We ended up watching it through the S-video out on my notebook, which has the ATI R300 chipset. It looked OK. I'll play around with the DVD authoring software sometime to be able to do it right next time.

U tried nerovision express? Converts video files in to DVD video that u can burn and play in a DVD player - add menus, etc
