I have an old V-belt off a rotary tiller, unfortunately they don't have the parts for this anymore. I got as far as measuring the length and multiplying by 2. However, is there a belt "coding system" based on length?
Measure the actual outside length, then subtract ~2in to get the pitch length. For example: a belt trade-named "AX-70" measures ~72inches around the perimeter. Unfortunately some lawn and garden belts are measured around the outside, so you'll have to use a careful eye. Your best bet is to just take your old belt in and compare.
Just bring the belt to NAPA/anyplace and they will fix you up.
As long as it is not too old-Make /Model/SN bet you can find the factory manual=OEM belt number and a whole lot more.
If the belt is gone you can wrap a string around the pulleys and get the total length that way.. you will want to error on the larger size though, since the string will give a smaller-than-pitch-diameter measurement.
Martin and a few other manufactures have belt selection charts, so if you know the pulley diameters and center distance you can select the right belt.
