How to overclock?

I just set up a duron 800 and I changed the multiplyer to 9x to gain a performance of 900 MHz - worked just fine (nice temp. too)! Then I tryed entering a game to test the stress-performance. I played half a mission in Crimson Skies when it just magically droped out of the game. Mmmmmh.... It probably needs more power when I overclock it 12,5 %. Then I increased the V-core to about 1.45V and it just totally skipped out???

What is the meaning???

Doesn't MHz and V(olts) follow each other?

Please help a novice overclocker.

Are you sure its at 1.45 volts? It should be at 1.6v-1.85v if you're overclocking.

Is it too low???

At default setting is was about 1.35V, right?

Maybe you should try setting the voltage for your cpu to 1.60v! It's the default for the 800mhz Duron, you should try to bump it to atleast 1.7v to get 900mhz.

I couldn't get it over 900 MHz and it is 800 MHz by default.
It runs now at 900 MHz with 1,75 V and temperature is about 43,5c idle, 46c stress...

Why wont it overclock to 950 MHz (1,85V or 1,80V) ???

If you penciled the L1s that could be the problem. It may also be the limit of your chip, 900 max is not that unusual for a duron even if its a 800 by default.

My D650 also maxes out at 900...

got my 700 to 1050. just using gorb and thermal..oh yeah and a 92mm fan blowing 2mm away from it.
