How to permanently destroy a cell phone so no-one can use it agian

I used to have this cell phone sometime back. It was a samsung slider phone. Long story short, it got mishandled a lot and therefore developed a lot of problems such as the slider getting very tight, display switching off when slide is opened etcetra. It cost me 500 rupees to replace the wire connecting the phone to the display, which used to snap, like every 2 months. So instead of repairing it, i decided to get a new phone.

Now the old phone is lying among my old books. Its in a very bad condition, and i am pretty sure that getting it fully repaired will cost me more than its MRP. However the problem is that i can't just throw the phone out in the trash, because if somebody finds it and uses it to commit a crime(the phone's communication components still work flawlessly, its just the buttons that are missing and the display that doesn't work), i'll get busted since the IMEI number will surely link back to me.

Therefore. My question. How to destroy the phone so that its rendered completely useless. I've considered incineration, however i'm afraid of the phone blowing up. Any bright ideas, folks?

TLDR - wanna destroy a phone so that it can't be used again in any way whatsoever.

1) Put phone in bag.
2) Get sledgehammer
3) Place bag on a sturdy structure
4) Let your anger out on the phone
5) Empty crumpled phone parts into a jar of water.
6) Let it sit outside 3 days.

take the battery out and smash the circuit boards. if they have the resources and desire to recover it after all that then you are truly fucked.

Step B) recycle battery
Step C) cut up SIM
Step D) recycle phone where you bought it

If you really want to make it hard to use, desolder some of the internal processors.

here's a practical solution. take out the sim card if any and destroy it via your method of choice, I would personally cut it and then burn it. recycle the battery. remove any sd card or other removable memory device and reuse. drill through the phone with a normal drill and drill bit in 5 locations. drop what's left into a cellphone recycling receptacle.

i've done it to a fully charged lithium ion battery from a phone - nothing happened. i was disappointed it didn't flare up or start smoking.

yeah he does. if you smash it the circuits will not be intact. if someone has the capability to reassemble smashed silicon that person really really hates you.

I clipped one with snips once, and it went off. It started burning. Not one of my more brilliant moments tbh.
