How to play avi files recorded with ATI MMC software on another computer without ATI software or hardware?

I recorded videos from my camcorder to my harddrive using the AIW TV in feature. I then burned the videos on to CDROM. The problem is that the videos need a silly ATI video codec so I can't view them on another computer. I get an error that no codec ATI could be found. I dont want to have to install an ATI card in the other computer so that I can install the ATI MMC sofware (and be able to then play the files). Anyone have any suggestions besides rerecording them without the bunk ATI codec?

Download the codec to the computer you are trying to run it on. It should then play in Windows Media Player. There is a great site with all codecs and it slips my mind right now. Do a search on Google.

Another thing to check is the output file format. It helps to choose standard AVI or MPEG, not ATI's proprietary format. Using the standard file types you don;t need ATI's codecs to play it. At least with my experience with it.

You don't say the version of MMC or the type of AIW, if you are talking about the new Ati *.vcr format, they are just a superset of Mpeg-2 for local playback, you can covert them to mpeg-2 with the ATI library application. If you are talking mpeg-2 files, the computer that views them needs a mpeg-2 codec installed, not freely available, typically installed with DVD player software.

Located and downloaded the ATIVCRX.EXE codec pac from ATI.
