How to prevent wireless disconnect?

Using Comcast 16Mb, Netgear 3300 dual-band router, D-link 'extreme N' PCI card.

(That's about to change to a LInksys dual band USB adapter when it gets here).

This is currently on a 'g' connection, not reconfiguring since new card is coming.

When I come back to the PC and it 'reactivates' from a 'sleep mode', the wireless connection is dropped each time and I need to re-connect through the control panel.

That used to work - but as a second issue, the recent situation is that it gets an error, and I click 'troubleshoot' and it says 'problem found' and 'fixed' and connects.

While being used it's ok.

Anyone know how to get it to remain in use and not need to get a 'connect' instruction? Maybe some power/sleep choice?

And on the second issue why the connect might get an error but fix it in troubleshoot?

Without any answer, I just turned hibernate off altogether.

You can go into the device properties in dev manager and remove the setting for turn this device off to save power

i havent tried it...and im too lazy to bother right now (because im wirelessly neffing at work) but....wont that pretty much get ignored during a hibernate? thats the point of hibernation: everything goes off.

Take it out of the power saving.

Set it to connect Auto to preferred Networks and clean up the list so only your network is preferred

Take into consideration that it might not work no matter what.

Unlike wired NICs that are designed to interact with the Motherboard even when the computer is Off but plugged into the wall power. Wireless is dependent on software and many Wireless cards will not automatically reconnect by themselves when the computer comes out of sleep mode.

It is promised to be taken care off in the future, but given the lack of agreements upon Wireless standards there is no way to know when some thing like this would be resolved.

Also, you didn't specify a version of windows. If you're using Vista, get 7. Vista had some horribly stupid wireless management quirks.
