How to purposely damage a video card?

What would be a good way to damage a video card that would render it unusable? (Without physically breaking it or snapping it)... Would holding up a strong magnet to it do anything?

Suggestions are appreciated

We do not condone this sort of behaviour on AnandTech. This is fraud.

Hehe well... Static is pretty bad for electronics. So are magnets, but idk if it's sheilded for that sort of thing. You could try to OC it to like 2ghz... this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Can I ask why you might want to do this?

The store that I bought my video card at has a return policy where I can pretty much exchange my damaged x700pro for something equal to the price that I paid for it. In this case a x1900gt... It is an attractive upgrade, so I figured that I might as well do it.

This is called fraud, and it comes with very severe penalties. You won't get any help here.

wow I'm suprised that some of the responses. I don't see what is so wrong with this, considering that I paid a fair amount for the 3 year in-store warranty (which is about to expire) that allows me to get a replacement on a damaged product. Alot of people do worse things. (illegal ones)

My main concern was if it is shielded from magnets... thanks to the people that gave some suggestions.

unplug the video cards fan and play some games that'll kill it

LOL, but they are right what you want to do is considered fraud and is illegal.

More likely it'd just crash without the fan I think.

I can't believe someone was convinced that quickly to decide not to commit obvious fraud.

Extended warranties are "insurance". Sometimes it pays off, sometimes you end up throwing your money away. That's why most people advise not to bother with them. In the long run, you save more money by having to occasionally replace an item at your cost than you would have by having bought extended warranties on everything. You could probably buy another X700 for the same cost as what your warranty was.

Unlike insurance in other areas of course, it'd be pretty easy to make sure you "get your money's worth" with a warranty, if it weren't illegal. Fraud with other types of insurance is usually a little more complicated.

from heat, OC'ing it or unplugging the fan, it won't die as almost all GPU's today will lower their speed to match the temp. bu what you are doing is illegal and you won't get any help here.
