How to remote support

I need to so some remote desktop support. Usually, my clients' computer will be behind the firewall. Is there any free solutions that I can have my clients sharing their desktop? So that I can more easily do finish my job.

VNC works nicely. Have to port forward through a firewall.

Try the Remote Support Software. It is avilable for free for some days. You just need to search for Remote Support Software on the web and you'll get plenty of companies providing such software.

I use both Logmein and Iremotepc (both have FREE versions). As a matter of fact, I just gave up GoToMyPc, which, while an outstanding service, isn't free.

I've used many remote apps for tech support. If your looking for something 'free' that works well I recommend VNC. Don't waste your time with apps that have a 30day eval unless u actually plan on making a purchase for one of them.

A side note with VNC, your remote client will need VNC Server installed and YOUR machine will need VNC Viewer. (free version contains both)

Download free version here: VNC

VNC Server uses port 5900 as default.

As for firewall, have your user disable firewall while your doing the troubleshooting then turn it back on when your finished.

Two things: Logmein and IremotePC are not 30 day eval programs. They are free. There are paid-for versions that add more features, but for basic remote control and file transfer, etc., these work very well in their free versions.

Additionally, there's no firewall port to have to open and no remote user who has to sit there to open it. These apps will work as a service, meaning a remote user doesn't even have to be logged in. The remote pc simply needs to be "on" and connected to the internet. They use the web browser to remotely control the pc. For those reasons, I find them much more useful than VNC.

What VNC DOES offer is cross-platform capability. The two programs I mentioned are Windows-only at present. There are many ported versions of VNC that can work on any number of operating systems. So, if you have a mixed OS environment, that would be the app of choice.
