How to remove smell from carpet ?

Well, long story short: after a little vodka based party one person was not fast enough to get into the bathroom, so he vomitted onto the carpet ... well, I cleaned everything ... but the smell is still there ... and it smells really bad ... so, what's the best way to remove smell with common household items ?

When you say you cleaned, did you actually clean the carpet with a steam cleaner or a shampooer? That's pretty much the only way to get it truly clean.

It's probably soaked into the padding underneath the carpet. An ozonator would probably help, but they're expensive.

Bissel has rug cleaner for pet odors, it'll work great on puke.

I think I would top it off with Smells-be-gone.
