How to remove Windows 2K and install XP Pro?

About a year ago I tried formatting the harddrive to install XP, but could not get it to install (not bootable from CD?). I would like to get this accomplished this time so thought some insight from experts might help.

I think the harddrive is formatted NTFS.

If I understand correctly, XP Pro will not boot from CD whcih is why it did not work before. I woudl like to format the drive or celan it off completelty to ensure junk/crap is fully gone. Maybe I need to format drive, reinstall Windows 2K then instlal XP Pro on top?

My XP Pro CDs are bootable, but you can also get boot disks from http://bootdisk.com

Whatever you do do NOT try this method. You want a clean install on a freshly formatted HDD to avoid potential problems.

Cool...so I can boot from the XP Pro CD.

If I boot from the CD, will it give me the option of erasing the hard drive, etc before installing the OS?

Is there anything I can/should do before trying to install XP Pro?

Yes, it does. You can remove the current partition and reformat anew. It's laid out quite self explanatory and I think you'll do fine.
There is nothing special you have to do except of course back up your essential data. Other than that make sure you boot of the CD, remove old partition, create new partition, format and install. It's quick and simple.
