How to run at agp 2x?

Have just installed a ASUS agp-v7100 (geforce 2 mx) in my system
replacing a Voodoo Banshee. I am currently running with the 6.18
Nvidia reference drivers. I have a MSI 6167 motherboard that supports
agp transfers up to 2x but according to wcpuid the board is only
running at 1x. With the use of powerstrip i can get the board to run
at 2x. Do i have to use powerstrip, why cant the board manually detect
and run at 2x.

My system:
Amd Athlon @ 700mhz
MSI 6167 mainboard
ASUS agp-V7100
IBM deskstar 10gb
Pioneer DVD 10x

I have a similar problem. My system defaults to 2x, but I want to run at 1x because it's not stable at 2x with my overclocked agp bus. I don't want to use Powerstrip eighter.

You should check out www.geforcefaq.com to see if there are reg-files that force 2x. There are reg-files to force 1x, but they don't work for me.

If the 5.xx and 6.xx Nvidia drivers detect an AMD Northbridge chip they switch AGP to 1X. The only solution known to man is to put Pstrip in your startup file and it will do the switch to 2X at boot time. I have tried all the registry hacks and none of that kind of stuff works.
