how to set restriction to user in windows 2000?

I am using windows 2000. I have a small network at home with two computer. In computer A, I add an user name and password for computer B to log in to computer A.
There are several type of user, like guest, power user, restricted user...Which type of user is only allowed to read files, not writing anything?

That depends entirely on how your permissions are set. If you right click on the files/directories (or indeed the hard disk...) and look at the sharing/security tag you can see which users have which rights. I suggest that you ensure that "users" have the correct permissions and then add the user to that group.

If you are using Win2k Server or Adv. Server go Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Managment, Local Users and Groups, Users. A listing of users will be listed here, right click on the one you want to modify, select Properties, select Memeber Of. From here add or remove as necessary.

I believe he is probably using a peer to peer with win2k. In that case, I would give the user that you don't want to access anything, restricted user access.

Ok now I gotcha. Open Windows Explorer showing all your folders and such. Pick a folder or Local Disk for the whole hard drive. Right click, Properties, now the sharing tab is very powerful use it wisely, the Security tab is where you can add and remove permissions it will also show you the individuals that have access to files and what control of those files are assigned, you can set Read and Write Permissions here.
