great insight [note the sarcasm], do people here feel that they are smart because they can nit-pick. I don't think he is saying to throw everything out that wasn't made in the US of A. Just do what you can.

think before you post stupidity.

Sorry if this sounds mean, but some ppl think they are so funny, and they are really just annoying.

My wife just called and she told me she could not get a flag in local Wal Mart, in any size. I hope they were just simply sold out, not because some smart guy told the manager to take them off the shelf.:|

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14 is "Flags Across America.", at least I have a small one which has been on my mailbox since yesterday.

A little off-topic, but I think this commentary from a Canadian television commentator should be heard (or read). Please, feel free to copy the commentary and send to all the people who you think would be interested in reading this.

This must be a bit old (obviously pre-Airbus), but otherwise right on!

If people are going to invest, invest in stocks that are stable, and for the long-term. (ie IBM, MS, Bell, Etc etc) If you are planning on investing only in the short-term, any gains made in the market in the next month would be wiped out immediately. Think about it: everybody invests a $1000 dollars in stocks. Fine, market goes up dramatically. two months down the raod, when the government is reporting the biggest gain in the economy in 2 years, everyone pulls their money out. Voila, instant crash. The US economy will suffer, although not nearly as badly as everyone seems to think. Panic selling is common, and historical. Why do you think they shut down the markets? (other then the proximity) Everyone went into minerals, and gold saw it's highest one day gain in around 12 years ( not positive).

The point is, if your ging to invest any money/time/effort, make sure you know what you're doing, and that you can afford the additional funds. Nobody wants anybody to go bankrupt at this stage of the game. Consult your advisor, read the market news, and play cautiously. Only invest what you can afford to lose.

You guys analyze too much. Give the guy a break, he's probably not up to date in regards to aeroplane technology news but everything he said more than make up for it. Besides, what other country has a company that are capable of producing commercial planes alone? We have several of them. Airbus is a collective-effort of many European countries. And to quote again:

<< I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane >>

And I emphasize, "ONE of those countries".

buy something but don't buy stocks.

stock market prices have nothing to do w/ the US economy. let it go down, don't mean sh1t. what is important tho is that you don't hold back on your christmas shopping. for most retailers christmas season will make or break their year. don't hold back this christmas. that will do more to help our economy than any buying in the stock market.

Ummm Platinum,

While consumer sentiment is important, and the Christmas season is the most influential on 4th quarter numbers, the fact of the matter is this:

Panic buying/selling in any sector is harmful. Selling has an imediate effect of dragging a soggy economy down eevn further. Mass buying, on any level, only serves to artificially inflate the economy (see tech stocks in 99-00). If you really are trying to promote consumer awareness, realize that rational shopping habits, combined with a strong, but not overzealous, christmas season, will serve to halt the North American decline. However, consumer confidence MUST improve if the economy is to reach a sustainable level of productivity. Rate cuts at this point are inevitable, most likely to be followed by a slight rise in 1st quarter 2002.

I applaud your concern, and your forward thinking, but mass-spending/selling will only serve to further bottom out the economy. This Christmas season is already pegged at being slower then the last couple.

Besides which, all the Hot Deals that abound in here only serve to reduce corp. profits...
