Why are so many runners in the Olympics black? Let's send white runners instead to level the playing field a bit more!

Popularity is also a big part of award shows btw, otherwise none of the SW movies would have ever gotten nominated for anything after the first one, and that one only for effects and music, and maybe costumes.

That's a terrible analogy.

Track & field is actually one area where it's a true meritocracy. If you can run fast enough or jump far enough, you win.

Unlike award shows where it's all politics, popularity, and personal opinions.

The Oscars *are* a popularity contest, so? What else would you have it based on? Race? Or do you have some other matrix to judge good acting besides people voting for what they liked?

The single most disturbing aspect of this entire movement is that a single group of people were able to be singled out, and cast as the villains of this whole thing, by simply giving them a euphemism.

Call a Jew a "Hollywood Executive" and you can say whatever you want about them.
Except it happens to be true that the movie industry in Hollywood is dominated by people who happen to be Jewish. According to one article I looked at, 84% of the people controlling the major studios are Jewish. I couldn't find stats on the composition of the Oscar committee but I'd assume that it follows a similar trend.

There's nothing wrong with this of course. There are plenty of stereotypes about certain ethnic groups and occupations. The Korean or Indian store owner. The Greek diner owner. Etc.

But when one particular group, especially a group that tends to be fairly cohesive, tends to dominate an industry, that industry is inevitably going to reflect their cultural preferences.

You forgot the West Virginian crack whore.
I think it's now oxycontin whore, but I see your point. I'm not saying that all stereotypes are true. But as a general rule, they tend to have some basis in reality. And before anyone gets upset with me for that, what I mean is that even if you have a small minority of an ethnic group engaging in particular behaviors, if those behaviors are noteworthy and remarkable enough, they tend to be, unjustly, applied to the whole group. Even so, the image they create isn't complete fiction.

I agree and I've said it before. I don't understand why people get upset at Asian stereotypes since most, if not all, are made over there anyway.

Sam Smith won best new artist at the BET awards a few months ago.

He's not the best new artist imo, and he's not black. Not only does BET nominate white people who are undeserving, but they actually have white people winning too. And Sam's not the only example.

If BET wants to give a white whiny little bitch with an annoying singing voice an award, that's on them. Don't try to use that guilt anybody else.

You don't think the Oscars are a popularity contest?

Personally I don't give a shit about the Oscars. I make up my own mind about movies but other people seem to care.

The country itself is becoming more diverse so if the Oscars want to doom itself into obscurity by staying the course, they're welcomed to.

I'm agreeing that they ARE a popularity contest, and that race should NOT enter into the voting.

Which minority actor got snubbed this year? Anyone?

Pandering to minorities by giving them special consideration because of their race is wrong. If you think the Oscars will "doom itself into obscurity" unless they do, then I think you are wrong.

One isn't black and another is probably claimed by transgenders so for equality purposes can't be counted as both transgender and black.

The question was which minorities were snubbed not which blacks were snubbed.

I've only seen clips of Benicio and Idris. I was impressed by Idris and he won the SAG for it, but Benicio played a Mexican drug cartel related character in Traffic and he won.

None of them was worth an Oscar, and yes I watched them all. The closest would have been Elba, I really do like him as an actor. Hoped he would be the new Bond. Seriously, the others? Creed? Not even close. Not when you consider the other choices.

You could have an argument if Zac Efron got nominated for Dirty Grandpa. But he didn't. Who would you take off the current Oscar list and replace with the names you mentioned? Remember this is an opinion of people, and not based on facts.

You can make a very valid argument for women, not "people of color". Do some research on the percentage in film, the percentage in America, and the percentage nominated lately. Then try again.

That's a terrible analogy.

It is not a good analogy. Going with your other post about who not having a certain percentage in a work force, look at the NBA. Why in a country where blacks make up about 12% the NBA 78% are black? Where is the outrage in this? How many MVP's in the NBA have been white in the past 20 years? Not the same percentage as that plays the game. Where is the outrage in this? I give zero fucks because the best players play the game, and the best players win the MVP. Which is how it should always be, there should never be a "token" person for anything. The best people play, the best people win awards. End of discussion. It could easily be turned around like the Oscar "argument" about not having enough blacks in the film industry or nominated. I would have no problems if every nomination for best actor went to a minority rather than white if they were actually better, or at least could be reasonably argued that they were.

And whoever brought up the Rooney rule is ignorant to the facts. It has actually hurt the cause. Just more ignorance though.
