I have a MSI Neo2 Platinum with a 3500+ AMD Winchester. I also have OCZ El Platinum rev 2 RAM. My system is built, CPU temps stable at 35-38 C with my XP-90 and 92mm Panaflo. I am ready to OC my CPU. I have read numerous articles and guides on the basics of OC'ing. It is an overwhelming amount of info to get a good base on where to start. I know about adjusting the HT/Multipliers, but what I don't know is if I should keep my multiplier at 11 and clock FSB up. I know my ram has great latentcies (It is a TCCD CHip), but don't know how that affects my overclock. Will someone be willing to walk me through it??

Read the first post in this category, Uberleetjared made a really nice guide to OCing.

PVD, please post your results as you increase your overclock.
Your setup is almost exactly like the one I'm thinking of putting together.

I read that Mrvile. I gaines some more insight into what each thing does, but it still does not give you a good platform on where to start. I was hoping for maybe a few instructions on where to start and then tweak.

I have the same setup but with a 3200+ here are my settings for 2.5Ghz.

Htt: 3x
FSB: 250
Multiplier: 10x
vcore: stock settings
over VID: 5%
Vdimm: 2.75
agp: 67

memory at 200Mhz (1:1) 2.5,4,4,10 1T

Turn off the agressive stuff and the cool n quiet.

Mine runs stable, prime95, superpi, 3dmark05, memtest86 at this 2.5 speed. With a little tweeking i should get 2.6-2.7. I have room to grow.

You will have to tweek differntly since u will probably be using 11x multi (thats whats on the 3500+ right?)....
for starters though, set ram to 133 ration and default 2,2,2,5. Raise the fsb until it is not stable, then try increasing voltage. With that ram you can get 250+ oc. As you increase the fsb, drop the HT multiplier.

So if I put my FSB at 230, leave multiplier at 11, and change HT to 4x, DO I change the vcore, over VID or VDimm?? I am confused about those last 3.

Also, how does my 2-2-2-5 latencies play into this??

Dividebyzero- thanks for the link. Will read

Just use the calculator to see the valid combinations, it is much easier. (keep HT below 1050).
Do not overvolt at the beginning, find what is marginally unstable and then overvolt gradually to see if you can make it stable...
First find what your ram can do, up the FSB to the point where your ram stops being (prime) stable when you use 1T, 2-2-5-2. Use a lower cpu multi to keep tour processor out of the picture. Always check the calc for the real frequency of your mem and your HT freqs.
You do the same with the CPU trying to keem the mem out of the picture.
You combine these two tests and try to find the best spot of highest mem and CPU stable freqs...

will do. Thanks Strider. How do I get out of the bootup screen, as t is obviously unstable and won't let me delete into bios.

let it cool a bit and try to get to bios again... if not clear the CMOS with the computer power unplugged!!!

OK Guys. Here are my initial settings. What do you think??
CPU Clock- 2475 MHZ
DDR Clock- 187 MHZ
HT Frequency- 4x
CPU Ratio- 11x
FSB Frequency- 225
AGP Freq- 67
CPU VID- 1.500 Volts

RAM
_____

Max Memclock- 166 MHZ
1T
Cas Latency- 2
Ras to Cas delay- 2
Min RAS active time- 5
Row precharge time- 2

My system seems stable so far. Haven't run Prime95 yet. ANy tweaks you guys suggest??

Run prime95 for a few hours, see if it is stable. You may need to up vcore by 3.3% if it is not stable. After you have it stable, get that ram running faster, by upping its voltage to 2.75 set it at 1:1 and try timmings of soemwhere around 2.5,4,4,10 1T or so. You may try lowering the HT to 3x if it is not stable also.

Is the RAM running faster if it is at 2-2-2-5?? I already have it at 1T.

Yeah but it would be less stable. You'll need to lower the timings if it isn't stable.

EDIT: And by lower I mean make the numbers increase in value
