What stands out most in my mind is when I was pulled off of lunch to work, not allowed to go back and finish my lunch, was told I could leave early to compensate, and then was forced to stay and work over (I was absolutely starved when I got home that day).

Simple solution to that...move to a state that mandates lunch breaks.

LOL, when I worked at a contractor for Time Warner I got written up for a bunch of things. Every single time, my response was...What, is this a school? You gonna call my parents?

LOL, I used to ask to be written up so that I can get a day off the next day. They used to think it was punishment to force a day off the next day after a write up. But I made 4 digit paychecks a week regardless of how many days I worked, so it was like a free vacation day.

Man, I miss that job. I don't think I will ever make that much money again in my life, or have as much clout ever.

I've never been written up at any job and since this new boss has come in (2 months ago), he's been nothing but trouble for everyone at work.

Well now, there's yer problem. Probaby his first management gig and he's over compensating or trying to make himself look good to the higher ups. Either way, all you can do is quit or walk on eggshells until he grows out of it and starts to relax.

Yeah, we call this "Hitler Syndrome". I've seen it quite a few times. It'll take a year or two before he settles down and realizes every single rule doesn't need to be followed to the T.
I've seen it, too. Veteran managers will also succumb to this when higher-ups like district or regional managers visit. Then suddenly every rule needs to be followed, because the proximity of these higher-ups causes an instinctive reaction for lower management to firmly embed their noses in any upper management ass they can find. Few managers can resist this powerful urge.
Once the upper managers leave, the effect begins to wear off. Within a week, things should be back to normal.

As for this manager, say something to his superiors, but be prepared with a good argument that will sound good to someone in a management position. Saying, "I don't like him" won't do anything positive. Something more like this might work: "He's new to the team, and not familiar with how we do things. We have a system worked out that gets the job done efficiently, and he's trying to change that."
Or something along those lines - if the new guy is hurting productivity, something will change.

Get extremely sick and then come to work and take a one our lunch so your boss writes you up again. In the meeting, make sure to spread your disease to said boss and explain that you didn't want to get written up for calling in sick so you just came to work.

I doubt it even has to do with following all the rules. I've NEVER worked at a job that requires you to see a doctor if you're only sick one day....and that includes several retail jobs. I think this new manager is just a douche.

Look in the handbook for the job- every employer needs to have one (HR might have it). See if a doctor's note is mandated in the sick day rules. If not, you can point that out. The boss can not write you up if it's not a pre-defined rule.

According to the handbook, a doctor's note can be requested (but never was) at any time. He then told me that even if I had gotten a Doctor's note, he could still write me up.

Just say to him, "I don't think you're not gonna write me up. In fact, I'm pretty positive you definitely don't want to write me up. In fact you want to give me a raise."

And when he says, "Oh, and why would I want to not write you up and give you a raise instead?" you just say, "Because I don't really think you want HR finding out about the offer you made me to not write me up if I'd let you blow me now, do you?" Then when he threatens to fire you, threaten to tell everybody about the hand job he gave you.

So today, I got off of a 13 hour shift (retail employee) where I was scheduled for a 1 hour lunch. I also live in virginia and have worked for the company for 2 1/2 years. At the end of my shift, my boss pulls me into the office and tells me I'm being written up for two things:

1.) I called out sick 10 days ago and I was legitimately sick. I haven't used a sick day in over a year, but I didn't get a doctor's note since I have a Health savings account and really didn't want to use it unless I'm practically dying.

2.) I was also being written up for taking a 1 hour lunch. He scheduled me for a 1 hour lunch, however, he told me later that I was supposed to take two 30 minute increments instead of one straight hour. I've never been told of this, nor do I know if this is even true.

I've never been written up at any job and since this new boss has come in (2 months ago), he's been nothing but trouble for everyone at work. MANY HR complaints have been filed and I've come to the conclusion that HR is going to be sitting on their hands about this. Anything I can do besides finding a new job? Anything legal I can do? I was thinking about possibly going in with an audio recorder and recording everything. Suggestions?

Well, I have actually documented EVERYTHING that has happened over the last 2 1/2 years that was either questionable (legally) or downright illegal and unethical in case anything happened to me. Anything I can do with that? Or just satisfy myself with a nice little read every time I'm too happy with my life... (haha)

Yes you can black mail the company and get millions.

Haha, let me rephrase. Anything I can do LEGALLY? I'm actually considering seeing an attorney based on principle alone...

are you kidding me? christ, how old are you?! its such a minor thing...if you don't like it then quit. its retail, you're a dime a dozen.

What did he say as a reason for being able to write you up even if you had a doctor's note? Did you not say anything in your defense?

He claimed that he had figured that out when talking with HR about another employee. He didn't say anything further. I told him I was not going to discuss it since or do anything today since(I've written up many people and I know how things work) another manager wasn't there to witness it all.

He was supposed to come in on his day off (today) and give me the writeup, but never did.

So I called up HR today and they said I completely have a case (Wow, HR siding with me). Apparently this guy has had so many complaints I can't even go through our HR Case Manager and I have to go through the Regional HR President.

What the hell are you doing?
That hurt.
Why would you do that?
Oh, my God! No! Please stop!
What are you doing?
Oh, God, no! Please! No!

For some reason,
I thought of my first fight, with Tyler.
No!
Under and behind and inside
everything this man took for granted,
something horrible had been growing.

Look.

Give me the paychecks, like I asked,
and you won't ever see me again.

Then, at our most excellent
moment together...

Thank God!
Please don't hit me again.
