Well this is the first time that I've bought cdrs from OM. So anyways I was trying to get the UPC off, but the UPC is a sticker and they stick it on the first clear cd protective coaster, so cutting it was impossible . It was so hard to take it off, I tried using my nails to get under it then slowly peel it, but it just rips so easily. I think OM's plan was to make the UPC rip easier so we can't send in our rebate.

For those of you in the same situation that i was in, here are some tips.
First you can try to use a blowdryer to heat it up, and hopefully get the glue to melt off
if that doesn't work, soak it in water and wait for about 2 min, then try peeling it off. Peel it slowly, it should come off ez.

I just ose a "safety: razor.
The type used in box cutters.
I also use them for removing material from bottom heatsink.
A small box is low cost and will last a long time.

Out of curiousity... why not just send in the disc? It's useless for anything other than ornamentation.

My favorite two tools for removing UPC codes are an exacto knife and a hair dryer.

it costs more to send non-standard size mail.

i use a swiss army knife for everything. upc is no problem. cut tape to seal boxes. open boxes. assemble/disassemble computers. all with just one knife.

Moisten a cottonball or papertowel with GooGone and gently soak the label for a minute and then lift off with a razorblade tool.

Paper cutter at work made a short job of that plastic disc. Scissors should work too, just put the disc as far up the blades as possible, near the fulcrum.

I don't know if this is true for the deal this week, but when I bought those CD-Rs at OM a few weeks back, I called and they said I could just copy the UPC and send it in. YMMV, but that's what they told me.

personally....i just get the iron out and put a sheet of paper in between. the iron heats it up mighty quick, within 5 secs and voila....peels off like a dirty diaper from a baby's butt.

Agreed -- bastards at OM really, really make you jump through the hoops to get the rebates. The "must postmark within 7 days" in the fine print, coupled with the "please allow 8 to 10 weeks for processing," is just infuriating.

Kitchen scissors cut the plastic pretty easily. Maybe I should hone the plastic edges to razor sharpness to draw blood. . .
