So, if you have slow cpu and powerful card, might as well turn everything on

I got 573 fps playing Doom 3 at 2048x1536 with 64xAF and 32X AA. A little low for 2008 but then I was only running a Pentium6 20GHz overclocked to 28GHz and 10GB of PC16000 QDR3-SDRAM.

That's a pretty weak overclock for a P6 20Ghz (Intel model number: Pentium 50,000), IMO. I got mine up to 33 Ghz .

Try adding an additional '1' (e.g. timedemo demo1 1) to enable precaching textures, that will eliminate the need to run each timedemo twice.

1024x768/medium detail: 2148 frames rendered in 76.5 seconds = 28.1 FPS

XP1800+ @2GHz/1GB PC3200/FX 5900XT

Ouch.

Do you have aa and af set to application preference? And run at 1024x768.

Make a decison on how you want to AA or AF to be implemented. ATI card utilized the control panel set AA and AF is you check the application preference then the AA & AF will use what is set in DOOM III set-up otherwise if the application preference is left unchecked then it will use those settings in the ATI control panel.

ok.. on 1024 medium detail, its 43fps... alot better..

for arguements sake, on 1024 high its 40fps.. not too bad of a drop.. and this is all on stock 9800 pro speeds.. no change at all

Yes, I'm curious too (me got 9800pro 128).

My 9800 Pro 128 does great at 1024x768 on High. I don't use AA or AF because well... I don't notice the difference while I'm playing... so much of the scenery is dark that you don't notice the jaggies, and there's nothing really ever that far away that you see much edge crawling. While playing at those settings I spend the majority of my time above 50 frames per second.

I'm VERY impressed with the amount of shadowing that's done without it being a slideshow.

i saw it on a similar system yesterday, and it was a lot smoother than 25fps. I am currently running the 4.7s

Your latest numbers don't look that bad. We have a very similar setup except I'm overclocking my 9800P and you're only 4-5 FPS behind me at the same resolution/detail level.

I really wish I could've picked up a BFG 6800 GT/Ultra to run 1600x1200 4x/8x though. Even if it's a slideshow (20 FPS on my rig) have a look at the timedemo at 1600x1200 - even on high with no AA it looks *amazing*!

Edit: Oh, I'm on WinXP Pro and 4.7 cats.

1024x768 @ Ultra High - 34.8 FPS

1280x1024 @ Medium - 32.0 FPS

Jeff.. I tried ultra rigtht now.. interesting my drop from High (41fps) to Ultra (38fps) wasn't much. I'm willing to bet the bank that's due to my 2GB of RAM

I didn't read the post all the way through, I guess I have 8X enabled cause it's set to application preference in the drivers. Although... I thought I noticed a performance hit when I set it to 4X manually... I'll have to double check that.

*EDIT* Rig details are in another post... if you want more details I can be more thorough... bout the only thing I didn't mention is my Raptor and Audity 2 ZS.
