Thanks for the info guys! It's great to see the results from so many different rigs.

I just received two awesome emails - the first one said my BFG Ultra shipped overnight and the second said my copy of Doom 3 shipped overnight. Perfect timing! I'll post some numbers tomorrow when I get home from work.

It appears to me based on the tests that I've run.. that the P4 is actually to a certain degree the bottleneck. The split from a 1024 Medium to 1024 Ultra (without AA I believe was that value) kinda surprised me.. your taking less than a 10fps swing..that actually speaks volumes about the engine's scalability on chips..

I just ran 1024X768 High 4x AA and was 24fps
1024x768 High 2x AA was about 32fps....

Do you notice much difference during gameplay with AA on? I don't... I mean... if you look back at my previous posts, you'll see that I HATE gaming without AA... that's one reason I don't like Far Cry too much... but in D3... I don't notice jaggies or edge crawling unless I stop and look for it.

Anyone else have a similar opinion about AA in D3?

I think I'll have to agree with you on this one man. The AA isn't critical (At least so far in doom3) because you can't see any jaggies in the dark!

1024*768@medium
in 46.4 second = 46.3fps(1st)
in 43.4 second = 49.5fps(2nd)

where do u set AF value?
i can only set AA in the advance menu, do u set the AF value in XP's display option?

Abit NF7-S V.2 (nForce2-U400)
Corsair TwinX XMS 3200LL 512MB @ 2-3-2-6 (2.6v)
Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB

1024x768 @ High - 25.8 FPS
1024x768 @ Ultra High - 10.9 FPS

man I'm so pissed, my results are so low is it because I need more ram?

Edit: my results were all first tests

I'm kinda annoyed at how Kyle (HardOCP) led those of us with low-spec machines to believe Doom3 would run fine for us.

On my system, gameplay is severely detrimental (framerate-wise) to Far Cry v1.1, and it looks worse too!

My system:

AthlonXP 1600+ @ 1700+ (1500mhz)
VIA KT266A chipset
1GB of some high-end OCZ PC3200 ram, underclocked of course, making it a bit irrelevant
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb 256-bit @ STOCK - can't overclock with D3! (Carmack was right...)

WinXP SP1a
VIA 4-in-1 4.43v (VIAGART v4.30)
Catalyst 4.7 whql

well-configured, well-optimized, blahblahblah

timedemo demo1:

800x600 "low quality", shadows off: 44.9
800x600 "med quality", shadows off: 44.3*
800x600 "med quality", shadows ON: 36.8

* = what I've been playing it at. game becomes a slideshow whenever I do a point-blank shotgun blast to the head of one of those evil soldiers. bloody annoying. it also tends to get slideshow-ish whenever i'm in a room with lots of flashing, dynamic lights and/or objects. bleh.

(Note: I got through Far Cry 70% of the way through at 1024x768, most settings at "High". Rarely any performance problems and it looked better than D3... *sigh*)

LocutusX: Your CPU must be really holding you back. We have similar systems other than the CPU part and my framerates are much higher. Also, I have had zero problems with my 9800NP flashed to pro and overclocked to 405/390 in Doom3.

That's interesting. Previously I was able to run 3dmark01, 3dmark03, X2-demo (all looping) with my card overclocked by at least 30mhz for BOTH core and mem. For D3 I tried putting them both at a measly +10mhz... bam! Hit by so much artifacting, I quickly turned off my computer in fear of permanently ruining the vid card... maybe if I had an Arctic Cooler I'd fare better. you have one?

I do have a VGA Silencer and aluminum RAMSinks on my card. My core overclock only went from about 400 to 405 with the VGA Silencer but my RAM overclock went from something like 360 to 390. I can run it at 410/395 with no problems/artifacts but backed off 5 in each just to be safe.

WOW!! your results are very low, that's very weird for the kind of power your system has!!!!!

this is what I got and I'm using these settings:

1024x768 @ Medium - 27.8 FPS
1024x768 @ High - 25.8 FPS
1024x768 @ Ultra High - 10.9 FPS

AMD Athlon XP T-Bred B DLT3C 1700+ @ 2.3GHZ

Has anyone tried Ultra quality? I'm hoping for 1600x1200 High Quality at the least.

Timedemo runs fine (apparently it fits into memory). However, you will experience heavy stutter during the game, especially when you entering new areas.

Note to people above - High Quality setting enables 8x AF by default, unless you override it in the CP.
