I've got so many things on my mind, it's driving me insane. Insane to the point where I just want to scream. It's not even important things either, just trivial B.S.

I want to turn off my brain. Tips?

Ride a mountain bike for eight hours on rough terrain. You will need to concentrate on not crashing and forget all that crap. The circular pedaling and deep breathing will bring peace.

Works for me, at least.

A book called Mindfulness in Plain English. Your mind is in your control.

Edit: You'll want to read it on something you can bookmark and highlight. It's on Kindle (others?) if you have a tablet.

Alcohol works for me... A shit ton of alcohol, but it all comes flooding back in the middle of the night after it wears out.

Mixolydian, the first step to finding a solution to the problem is to realize you have one. I am happy you are observant enough to realize you have a noisy brain. Now you can try to remedy that. I know how it is. For the past few days, my mind has been noisy as well.

It may be a combination of personal thoughts fighting each other and external events carrying us. I am trying to pay attention to what is happening in me but it is difficult.

Mixolydian, there are some genuine spiritual teachers out there. There are systems out there. You have to find one if you are truly interested in quieting your mind and living a different way. You can PM me if you're interested. I've been working at this for a while now and it is definitely not easy. But neither is living a life blindly.

P.S. If your brain is noisy with useless shit, you may have OCD...

Go participate in a TexasHiker P&N thread
Suicide is a little too permanent of an off-switch though.

Watch TV.

But heck, I started doing this to help me sleep, at least with old TV shows or movies that I'm very familiar with. I know how they go so I won't force myself to stay awake so I don't miss anything.
They're played on my tablet, and I set it to turn off automatically after about an hour. (I usually take at least 30-40 minutes to fall asleep. On lousy nights I can push beyond 2hrs.) But if it runs during the night, the constant noise screws with my sleep, oddly enough. Some of that is due to the really bizarre dreams that are wont to occur as snippets of the ongoing chatter filter into my head.

Or you fall off and hit your head on a rock. So it works no matter what.

Try a carb snack. Although unlike fatties, you can go for healthy carbs. It boosts your blood's tryptophan levels which is the precursor to serotonin.

Or go out for some vigorous exercise like mountain biking.

Go run, think about your breathing, it will be like meditation for you.

Otherwise, buy a decent scotch, start drinking.

Welcome to my every day struggle.

When I want to shut my brain up, I overload it. I'll try to solve a difficult, complex problem. The less information I have, the better. Also, the less the problem has to do with me, the better. I will try to keep myself from sleeping until the problem is solved.

If that doesn't work, I slam strong coffee. If my brain wants to fight, I'm going to win. Stupid brain.

If I slam any coffee that isn't decaf on anything but a brain that got <6 hours of sleep, I go effing batshit crazy. So much god damn energy and hyper for the next 6 hours.

You're right, I do kinda win in the end because I'm completely exhausted after 6 hours.

It sounds like mixy has a weird brain like mine. The docs now call it ADD. When I was a kid they called it "shut the hell up and go to bed!" The caffeine OD works well for me but I will usually only sleep a few hours and I start over.
