How to uninstall XP?

My computer has been really unstable and I'm not savvy enough to figure out why. It was working fine on XP pro for a while, then every time I restart I get a BSOD after I type my loggin name. I can start it in Safe Mode and I have booted it once and it worked like normal, but for the most part I can't restart or plug in my USB Zip 250 without it crashing.

There wasn't much on there so I think I will just reinstall 2000. Well, it won't let me do that because it is an older version. I have my HD formatted to NTFS, and I read somewhere to boot of the CD and reformat. I change my BIOS to say boot off of CD, but when I restart it just does the same old thing. How do I go about reformating? Any help would be appreciated as I need to get this done quickly.

usually when you change the bios to "boot from cd", then it boots from it. If you have more than one cdrom (like a dvdrom or something), make sure you're choosing the right one in the bios to boot from.
if you can't boot from cd you can also use a boot up disk and when it goes in the command promp just type Setup.

Back up your data. Very important

drop in you win2k cd and set the BIOS to boot off of CD first. A msg will come up asking you to press a key to boot from cd...press the enter key(or the "any" key if you can find it). You should come up into the familiar win2k blue DOS install screen. Select your OS partition to install win2k into and format the sucker. When it says there's already an OS in there, format it anyways. Then you should be able to install.

If that doesn't work, take a win98 boot disk, boot from it, and fdisk and format to your heart's content. Then drop in your win2k cd and install as normal.

It sounds like you're in the same situation as a friend of mine. He's so psyched because he was just able to keep XP up without it crashing for 24 hours. He's had it for a while. :Q

XP has been giving me problems from day 1, but it was mostly just having to reinstall new drivers. In the past couple of days I must have did something to it and not known it, but I almost can't use it because it crashes so frequently. For the time being I will go back to my good old 2K.

BTW it takes forever and a day to format this thing .

XP works great on my system. I did a clean install and it has crashed twice since Oct. 6th. And the two times it crashed was when I was exiting Counter-Strike.
It's been running 24 hours a day for the last 2 weeks without any problems.

B4 your format, try messing with "System Restore" to see if some settings can be untweaked to regain stability.

XP has behaved well for me for the most part. I've only had 3 crashes in these months. Two were attributed to the NV4 driver (yes, sucky nVidia drivers!) The other...well...it froze...for...some...reason.

Normally, if an app crashes, I launch task mgr right away and after it's killed, nothing is wrong with the system.
