How to untangle a Slinky

Anybody ever notice that there's a warning on the box of the Slinky not to use it in a moving vehicle?

Reminds me of those warnings for the cute furry guys in Gremlins... "Don't feed it after midnight." "Don't get it wet."

Go buy the Slinky untangling version 1.0b then click on Detangle, wait a few hours then make sure all antitangle definitions are up to date and then restart your slinky. Good luck and next time try open source slinky ver. 6.4.

Use the same method you would to untie a wadded up string of Christmas lights...

For me, that's flailing it about, pulling, yanking at my heart's content, throwing it in the garbage, and buying a new strand.

Patience would be the key thing to have, though.

I spent over half an hour on Friday night untangling the slinky I got for my son for his birthday on 12/31. I'm amazed that thing has lasted this long since they've been using it to "bounce" things off the ground from our upstairs loft.

I did get to show him some stuff about transverse and longitudinal waves and harmonic frequencies, but I think it all whooshed over his head 'cause he just turned 7. :-D

Anyway, after the untangling the metal was bent in two places and left those annoying "gaps" in the spring. ;-(

Use a pair of scissor to remove the two gaps. Now you have three slinky. Hot deals.

did you know that in the vietnam war, soldiers use slinky's as makeshift antennaes for their radios by hooking it up and slinging it into a tree? thought that was cool.
