Touchy subject, and it totaly depends on your wife and how she'd react.

Yep.

Whose money is she spending? If it?s mostly or all yours, keep everything you need for bills and whatnot and give her very little if any. Don't feel bad because she is being irresponsible.

They're married... its THEIR money.

meaning THEY need to solve the problem... i'd talk to the wife about it, cause its not gonna get any better if you have to continually hide this from her

I've decided to come clean with her. But, I will do that during our financial counseling. My reasons for keeping the money away from her knowledge was for the best intentions. After I thought about it, I don't think she'll be too mad about it, but there will be some grief. Nothing that would jeopardize the relationship that we have. We also have 2 sons that consider heavily in that.

I want to thank all of the great input that was given and even those that weren't great.

I think its better if you just give her some medecine.

Step 1) drain the checking account and throw it into savings.
Step 2) go to fuse box shut off electricity
Step 3) tell her electricity got dc failure to pay, pretend to get on phone with ec ocompany and then mortify her of all the extra disconnect reconnect fee's.
Step 4) get off the phone, start crying and be like why cant we have enough money just to pay the bills, i try so hard not to waste money, but why...whyyyy.

Telling her is a good idea, and getting financial counseling is a great idea. You need to set up clearly defined goals, a budget, and rules for saving.

I hope this doesnt come across wrong but how much of a raise are we talking about? if its an extra 200 a month then nah its no biggie. But if its like 500 a month then it may be more of a moral dilemma

What you need to do, is put your foot down and tell her to stop blowing all your money.

My dad is an Air Traffic Controller. He was married to my biological mother for ..20 years, I think it was. Alongside being a total waste of a human being, she spent $2 for every $1 my dad would make (keep in mind, she didn't work). She was the most wasteful person I've -ever- known.

Luckily he divorced her and married someone quite wonderful...that is, after mummy dearest drove him into bankruptcy and totally trashed his credit. It's all good now since he's married to someone with a brain, and retires next year...but if it weren't for my mother he'd have a ways more money than he does now. Granted, we live comfortably...but it's sad that an honest, hard worker like my dad got stuck in that situation and had his paychecks squandered.

Put a stop to it now, wesman6, one way or another.

Now I am curious, exactly why did you draw there line there? It is okay to lie about $200, but $500 and all of a sudden we are at OMFGWTHDIAFTTYLBBQ? How does that $300 suddenly turn it into a moral dilemma? What if his raise was $350?
