It better be perfect - for one summer, that was my job - to differentiate color differences that small among ceramic tiles being produced. Just one spring starting to go in one gas valve (of many) on a kiln that was a city block long could result in unacceptable differences. I was able to use a machine that read the color, but could do it by eyeball just as well as the machine. It was a great job for about 2 or 3 weeks, then it got boring and repetitious. That was one of the reasons I left ceramic engineering.

i imagine if you do that long enough you start seeing things in the tile that aren't there.
