How well does the stock EVGA 8800GTS 320MB overclock?

I'm thinking of buying this card:
EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB

I want to know:
1) How well does the stock 8800GTS 320MB overclock?
2) How well does the stock EVGA 8800GTS 320MB overclock?
3) How well does the performance scale with the OC towards that of the 640MB and GTX?

1: usually above 600/2000 from what i hear/read.

2: my eVGA 8800GTS 320MB is at 600/2000 stable. i can push it higher if i need to.

3: its a bit faster then a GTS 640MB stock if you overclock since they have the same clocks/pipes/everything just the memory is halved, but once you get into higher resolutions, the GTS 640MB and GTX 768MB take over.

well, at low resolutions (1600x1200 and maybe even 1920x1200 but thats pushing it) it'll be faster than a stock GTS 640MB...

im telling you though, its probably the best bang for the buck card out there right now. im definitely happy with it and i have to say, it plays every game i throw at it with max settings at 1280x1024...4xAA/16xAF enabled.

I have read many reports of this card stably doing 600/2000 as long as you use ATI Tool to max the fan speed. Can anyone here on AT verify these claims?

(waited for the 8600 series, only to be disappointed in the gap and spent the extra on the 320MB.)

i use coolbits (i did a registry edit to re-enable the classic control panel for the 97.92 drivers) and overclocked from there...now its at 625/2000 stable.

didnt try oblivion yet...i might this weekend or next week. if i played it, i would definitely keep it at 1280x1024 regardless of my detail settings (i do the max resolution first then turn on/off details).

well in regards your third question, the AT review of said cards will tell you what you need to know, Lower resolutions show no disfavor of the 320 variants. The 640 and the GTX pull away when AA and aniso is turned up and resolutions start to get bigger. Check out the reviews, they are worth it.

I did read those reviews but I'm still having some conflicting information....

With everything maxed (graphics settings, AA & AF)...

What is the highest resolution at which the 320MB version performs like the 640MB before starting to fall behind? Is it:
(A) 1440x900
(B) 1680x1050
(C) 1920x1200

Well except in games such as GRAW which require a high amount of texture memory, the 320MB 8800GTS should be fine at 1680x1050/1600x1200 and even 1920x1200.

I'd say it's B. My monitor is at 1680 X 1050 and in a couple of games I can feel the pich of the 320MB, especially with AA on. AA kills BF2 something horrible at that res.

Great because I plan to get a 22" widescreen monitor (1680x1050) at some point this year, so I just wanted to know that by getting the 320MB version, I would still be able to max my games.

Yeah you can, I can max Oblivion with it with HDR, but with HDR+AA or 8XAA Oblivion gets a little rough. You can plan to max them out but don't plan on AA.

Well at those resolutions, you don't really need AA (or AF for that matter) to make the games look good.

1680x1050 is my target resolution anyway with a proposed 22" LCD monitor.

and not just max.
1. with all kinds of mods.
2. hdr. 2x1 SSAA

Probably closer to 90% at 16x10, depending on the game.

I haven't got over 320 meg video usage with stalker, oblivion, call of juarez, at max settings in 1680x1050

tried stalker max settings AA 2x and still didnt go above 320 meg video
for "some" reason, battlefield 2142 uses more video memory though the games looks less detailed

mem usage won;t ever go above 320. it maxes out at 308 for some reason.
