How well does usb to ps/2 kybd+mouse adapters work?

all of my keyboard and mice have ps/2 connections.

new mobo i want to buy for i7:

that's the only mobo in stock at microcenter that will give me $50 discount w/i7.

it does not have any ps/2 ports.

How well do usb to ps/2 adapters work ($9)?

or just buy new usb kybd and mouse?

Frankly I'd just get a new keyboard and mouse (PS/2 is only getting deader), but if you'd like to keep what you have then adapters work fine.

The adapters work great. But newer mouses tend to be better than older ones.
If you have a nice keyboard, I can see wanting to stick with it.

They work well. I am currently using the big round connector to ps/2 and another one to usb.

I use them with my gaming PC and music jukebox because my old KVM switch is ps/2 not USB. They mostly work fine, the issues I've had are:

- Once in a while the KVM or USB adapter gets confused and repeatssssssssss a character until I hid backpsace or something else to stop it. This only happens once every few days.

- Some bootable CD software like old versions of Acronis True Image rescue disk might not see the keyboard or mouse. Newer software and the BIOS on my new socket 1155 motherboards are fine with it.

You lose NKRO by going through a PS/2 to USB interface, so unless you have a very nice PS/2 keyboard with mechanical keyswitches, you might as well just replace it with a new USB board IMHO.

n-key rollover, the number of keys a keyboard can take in before it stops registering. Important for gamers eg. you might want the caps/shift/ctrl/wasd keys to be able to work together even if most/all of them are pressed down. The ps/2 interface has the advantage of being better at nkro.

:thumbsup: NKRO is one of those things that your either really need or could care less about depending on your usage model. For me at least, the 5 or whatever simultaneous keypresses that you can do with USB is sufficient.
