I really, really want to see the mental gymnastics our resident Trump fans go through to defend their hero after he cut safety standards and backed a budget shrinking natural disaster response programs.

Houston is estimated to receive 24"+ more rain than it already has... for an estimated total around 50" once this is all said and done. There's already major flooding ongoing, their 911 systems are absolutely loaded to the max right now, one of their level 1 trauma centres is being evacuated now (leaving 2 remaining, but one of them is "just" a children's hospital), and the Euro forecasting model (which has historically been one of the most accurate models) is projecting the storm to move back out into the Gulf and restrengthen a bit before slamming Houston again. And this doesn't account for the smaller/more rural cities who completely lack the resources and infrastructure a city the size of Houston has.

Rockport and the Port Aransas area (where the storm made landfall) are heavily damaged, with most structures either severely damaged or just completely gone. Houston might be able to figure things out on their own, but the rest of the areas will need some help.

Not fine at all, major flooding with more on the way. As far as how TX is handling it the magnitude isn't yet realized so who knows, it's an ongoing crisis. Trump should declare it a disaster area to release funds (surely it has been already but I don't know) and stay out of the way.

Hard to say. This is real time-

The best case scenario would be for it to be pushed off to the east along the gulf coast but it's at sort of a tipping point right now...

There's some paperwork to put FEMA on it, which I'm sure has been taken care of. Being large & relatively wealthy Texas is in a better position to respond quickly & effectively than any of the 3 states immediately to their east. They can bring greater resources to bear immediately & figure out who's gonna pay for what down the road. That's good for Texans who took the hit.

You can't evacuate that many people on a whim, the call would have to have been made days before and no one knew what the storm was going to do.

The situation is bad but it could have been much worse with a million people riding out the storm stuck in a traffic jam trying to flee.

Not quite a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' scenario, but close.

Local gov made the right call. Those in the media questioning are just being sensationalistic for eyeballs sake.

Pretty sure that the local governments didn't make the right call. And I'm not saying this as a Monday Morning QB. The Weather Channel had pretty much indicated that the storm would move onshore as at least a cat 3 storm, and also indicated that it would stall and possibly backtrack somewhat, which would lead most to conclude that a massive amount of rainfall would fall on the area. If you are a resident in an area expecting a Cat 3 storm or greater to hit, you should always get out. Local officials that haven't lived through these types of storms are often clueless about the devastation that will ensue.

Remember, Texas conservatives, the F in FEMA stands for Federal, and NFIP is federeral government run single payer insurance. Never forget that you are no better than others who rely on government assistance.

Common sense.. get these peeps to the 2nd floor rather than snap a picture.. but we have great talent on the ground. Trump said it himself so it must be true.

It seems I was correct, even though it is too early to make any type of judgement.

Trump was wrong and Harvey was all his fault.....
