Not "getting his way?" The landlord CHOSE to rent her basement to him, meaning that she should abide by city tennant laws and regulations, especially regarding noise and/or zoning (which apparently she isn't/hasn't).

The easiest option is obviously to move, but just because it's her house doesn't necessarily mean that, should she choose to rent out her basement, she's allowed to do whatever she wants thereafter.

yes. he is being ammature. he did not say if he moves and she gives him flack then bringing up its a unlawful apartment (wich is what anyone would do).

he said "BTW, I have a great card to play but don't know if I should play it now or wait. I called the city urbanism dep. and they told me that in the area we're in, it's not possible to have a house with a second appartment in the basement or elsewhere. So, I could get the basement appartment closed with just a call...but it's more like a last resort move..."

wich is more like a little kid getting pissy on the playground because the other kids wont play how he wants so he is takeing his ball and going home.

I consider how he said it int he OP very immature.

is the landlord inconsiderate? yes. but he has no real options besides moving. his "card" is nothing more then a retaliation and immature act. Just find another place to move and tell her why. she gives him any shit (or keeps the security deposit (and he does not damage anything)) then yeah turn her in.

Are you paying Rent? I assume you are ... if so, just move out, she SHOULD understand...

Yes, I have a lease and I pay rent.

I rented this because on our first talked, she said she is coming from a house basement and she's tired of getting stomp on the head by her landlord. So she bought a house and rented the basement saying that she's rarely home due to work and she's gonna try her best to not make her tennant suffer the same shit she suffered at her other place.

So I rented the place, which is a cool appartment, nicely done, perfect size, etc.

If I only knew...it's like she's making others pay for what she endured...

Keep asking nicely, and look for another place.

This person is not taking advantage of you. You are not paying exhorbitant prices that you are forced to pay because you have no other choice.

As others have said. Leave.

OP, I'd start looking for another place, and have one nearly lined up. Then, I'd ask that inconsiderate twerp one more time to be more considerate, AND I'd mention the illegality of her renting her basement out.

What she's doing is illegal. No matter how hysterical waggy and others get about this, you have the right to at least use this as leverage to get that bitch to start doing the right fucking thing!

How about this, grow a fucking pair and move into your own place, then and only then do you get to complain about the noise of your 'neighbors'. Clearly she doesn't need you there, and is only doing you the favor of forfeiting her basement so you have a place to live. Don't be such a fucking pussy, get your own place and handle your own business... Of course you are probably some 19 year old twit working for minimum wage thinking everyone owes you something.

Clearly she does need him there to help pay the mortgage. Why would anyone rent their basement out if they didn't have to.

And if he could afford his own place I'm sure he would have done that a long time ago.

Of course probably a student, asshole.

You should send her a written/printed letter stating the intolerable conditions of the apartment. You may want to state in the letter of your previous verbal conversations too like "As we discussed before..."

Then you need to move ASAP. This situation is not going to change until you do. At least the letter will document your complaint and make sure you don't lose anything to early termination of your lease.

Just move out. Don't be a douche by pulling the "it's illegal" card unless she does something first.

Setup some hidden cameras in the shower and her bedroom, have the feed go to a website and have us monitor this situation

Actually, just put some microphones under her bedroom.

Stream the sounds.

Let her decide if she wants to be quieter.

not 100% true. i know 2 people t hat rent out rooms in there house. they don't need anyone's help (both make well over 120k a year) to pay the mortgage. one is a female who does not want to be alone but don't want a boyfriend. the other is a young kid trying to pay the house off in 10 years and makeing every penny he can.

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking. Do he bite?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Slip in his window. Break his neck.
Then his house I start to wreck.
Got no reason. What the heck?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
C-I-L my land lord!

Why would you rent out a basement if you're looking for peace and quiet. The same thing would happen if you rented out the basement of an apartment. People are going to have different schedules. This is why you don't assume shit. Now quit being a vag.
