I'm new to Wisconsin. After Madison, how would you rank order the rest of the schools in the state system??
Wisconsin doesn't have any 'U's in it. I don't know how you're going to get into college.
OP, it really depends on what you're studying. Let me know & I can probably point you to specific people at specific schools.
Are you a retard in real life or do you just play one on the internet?
whoa, i've seen you elsewhere on the interwebs. or at least that username.
anyway, welcome to anandtech!
obligatory: wwybywb
My son wants to do CompSci/EE. No idea what my daughter wants to study.
There's reciprocity with state schools in MN, so that's a possibility too.
Why is Madison not an option if he's such a good student?
OP never said Madison isn't an option. I assume OP understands Madison is better than any other UW system school for anything, at least if you're considering academics alone and no other factors.
Yeah very dependant on what you are studying.
Milwaukee will have the most programs outside of Madison though, its also the only other in the system that has a large number of PhD programs.
And only like 2 or 3 in the system have any engineering programs
That said I'm going to Platteville since it was umm really really cheap.
That and I didn't feel like transferring to Madison.
It tends to rank worse then the others though because of its size and the not giving a !@#$ if the students graduate or not. Though in all seriousness it cant be total suck otherwise Cray wouldnt requite from there. There is a nanotech lab being set up there if youre in need of post doc stuff in the field though and dont feel like going to some huge university for it.
But yeah anyways, since a 3.0 in state gpa lets you go to Madison ranks don't really matter.
Oh and who in their right mind would willingly come to WI.
UW-Milwaukee has the best cs/ee program after Madison, but Minnesota's program is better than Milwaukee's. Milwaukee also has the reputation (at least in Madison) as being the best all-around UW (after Madison).
Thanks! Are you a mid westerner?
Welcome to Wisconsin!
Madison is a great school. If you are looking at an engineering dgree, then MSOE would be an excellent choice. I toured their campus years ago and spoke with several of the councelors. It seemed like an excellent school, though I didn't attend.
I have also heard good things about Stout, Platteville, and Whitewater depending on which program you are looking into.
Certainly there may be better options for a young student, but as a possible employer, the only school that I would recognize on a resume is the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Of course, as long as the final degree says UW-M on it, who cares where he spent the first couple of years?
