How would you rate Dartmouth's engineering program on a scale of 1-10?

I would like to go to an engineering school, and have been looking at Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford. I am Native American and just discovered that i would have a very high chance of recieving a very substantial scholarship from Dartmouth. I am not really interested in anything except engineering, so on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate their engineering program in general? I am most specifically interested in medical engineering (maybe biomedical), so on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate their medial engineering programs if they even have any? Thanks

10 - Do you think they would have any dumb people at a prestigious top 10 school? It's not known for engineering, but I personally believe that doesn't really matter since other things balance it out. Just my opinion.

RIT? You must go there.

Your undergraduate school doesn't really matter that much. If you do well at Dartmouth, then you will get accepted into a great graduate school (if you're considering that route). It's a good school overall anyways.

Any engineering at an Ivy leagure will be balanced by a great liberal arts education. You will end up being a very well balanced and articulate (hopefully) engineer. Dartmouth would also prepare you well for graduate studies in other subjects. I think Dartmouth would be a great choice.

For some reason, I don't think of engineering when I think of Ivy League schools. They are known more for liberal arts. For biomedical engineering, I would think JHU is pretty up there.

But if you can get a substantial scholarship there, I would go there. For me, the most important thing is the best bang for your buck. You will get a great undergraduate education and then you can go to a top notch biomedical engineering graduate school later on.

Cornell is a good engineering school and it's in the Ivy League. Hell, if you ask an engineer which school is better, Cornell or a school like Purdue, they'll say Cornell even though Purdue is ranked better.

Sure, but its engineering is ranked as a top 20. It's actually pretty impressive given its size, research spending, etc. But if you ask an engineer, they'll probably be like WTF?

If you're native american you'll get in anywhere. Don't stop at Dartmouth when MIT is in your reach and you want to do engineering.

Actually you're wrong (if you're talking about graduate rankings). They don't even have Caltech ranked in the top 5. That's why I don't respect these current rankings as much.

Ok, so I was 4/5 right. It's weird how Caltech dropped so much this year Stanford and Berkeley kind of switch off every year or two, while MIT is entrenched on top. However, I don't see RIT, Dartmouth or Harvard on there.

on the side, UT: Austin and UIUC have awesome CS departments.

I really don't understand why everyone is debating what program is better and whatnot.

Fact #1: Dartmouth is a good school
Fact #2: Degree from Dartmouth will help with jobs
Fact #3: Scholarship from Dartmouth makes going there financially attractive (return on investment is high)

Well that was only the top 10. Harvard is ranked 17th. But, its research, school size, etc. is really small, so it's kind of impressive that they're ranked so highly since usually more research $ = higher ranking. I was really surprised that they were ranked so highly... I think most engineers would be surprised!

Honestly all those schools will give you a quality education. Find the one that gives you the best fit. =)
