I like it... but I don't think I'm going to like it nearly as much as TNG or DS9.

Its ok. Just another star trek show really.

I find myself feeling embarassed quite a bit watching it. Some parts are just so "feel good" or corny its painful. A few examples:

1) Various other races complementing the human race on certain qualities. This is just so lame when star trek does that.
2) The students near the beginning practicing some language and making really silly sounds. Who thought that would help the show?
3) The entire way it promotes humans as gung ho, run on emotion, but at the same time smart and courageous. Its hard to put into words but its pretty farkin corny. All the ST shows have done this.

In actual fact I got bored about 2/3rds through and started doing vacuuming

I missed the very beginning of it on Wednesday, but I caught the whole thing tonight, and I must say they could have chosen better theme music. Hopefully they'll change it at some point. I did like the show though.

I finally had a chance to watch the entire pilot (set to record for 1hour on Wednesday... oops) and I expected the franchise's "new direction" to be straight down. Then the captain makes out with alien species, ala Kirk, and that leads to interspecies cooperation. Kirk Diplomacy will be the show's savor, I tell you.

are you all gonna laugh at me if i say i'm starting to not hate the theme music?

when i first saw the intro i literally almost turned the show off, but that goofy 80s power ballad junk is growing on me now.

Well, compare it to "Mission to Farpoint" and I think it's got a lot of potential. I love TNG, but the farpoint episodes were kinda stupid. "Great joy, and gratitude... great joy and gratitude" With a pair of happy space jellyfish? Yeah, I think enterprise is off to a good start so far... now to convert it to DIVx

I really think it will be cool to watch develop. I think it's a mistake to make the Vulcan the next 7 of 9 but she does have some AWSOME breast's ,It must have been very cold in the decomtanination room Shes just way too sensual to be a Vulcan JMHO.

On the otherhand it will be neat to see the Federation form and develop I do think they made the Enterprise a little too developed if it's just 100 yrs from "the first contact"

I think Enterprise will be interesting. This series is before sheilds, and all the other technological advances. It will be interesting to watch it develop. STTNG had some really bad acting when it started, Enterprise is much better in that respect. I caught a re-run of Enterprise, and watching the rub down scene I swear that dude had half a boner -- not that I blame him, but puhlease, this aint soft pr0n on HBO

ok was it just me or was the rub down scene way to short.??? i would rate it 6/5 if the rub down scene was more like 30 mins of the show... maybe that just me.

ALL Star Trek series start out slow. The actors and writers need time to develop. Usually things get good in mid first to mid second season. I liked the premiere. I thought it was excellent for a Star Trek premiere. However, I think that it has a lot of room to grow and improve. I'm glad Scott Bakula is on the show. He will really do a great job leading things along.

I thought it was fairly good for a pilot these days... after all when I saw Encounter at Farpoint i thought it wasn't as good, but thankfully it got better. My only pick at it is more technical. Apparently the writers forgot to ask the techs what PHASER stands for, so they called the new weapons PHASE pistols, and that's another issue... PHASERs didn't get "invented" until about the time of the pilot with Kirk, the first PHASER on the show was a PHASER rifle which was still bulky, until then it was LASER pistols...especially if we refere to the original pilot. Now they did have larger PHASERs that they armed ships with, but nothing portable.
I did like the Transporter effects, much better than the TNG version, or even Voyager.

Also, I felt that Blalock did not pull off as convincing a Vulcan, but this I'm just figuring will get better as the show goes on. Spock did smile a few times in the two original pilots.

can't you explain that by saying that spock was half human?

I haven't really watched Star Trek since the first series. Literally I have probably watched one hour total of all the subsequent series, usually in 2-3 bursts. But I did like this new series a lot-they kept the trekkie trivia crap to a minimum (like the stupid language class), the captain is good, the characters are interesting and there is a real plot-at least in the pilot. Looks like this could be a winner.

I agree that the vocal themes were pretty weak, but I have good hopes for the show.

The writers have a daunting task. They have a whole, known "history" ahead of them (in story terms), so these shows have to be consistant with all of it. They also have a known "history" of the technology that will come after this time period, so they have to write precursor technologies that believably lead to the goodies we know will exist in their "future." With due respect to the earliest Trek's, they cannot appear too modern, yet they have to contend with 2001 + video product, so they cannot look as old as the original shows.

Overall, I think they did a remarkably good job of reaching this balance, and I think Scott Bakula is a good choice. My first reaction to TNG was not as favorable, but it evolved into possibly the strongest series of the franchise. I see good potential, so I'm going to watch to see where it goes.
