How would you react if everything on the internet was no longer anonymous?

Every post you ever made has your real name on it. Your neighbors can look up everything you downloaded. Your parents can read your blog.

What would your reaction be?

[edit] What would you most not want people to know as a result?

True enough, but based on the reactions, people think of it as anonymous and safe. The potential for pulling back the veil is very real, and that's what got me thinking and that's why I started the thread.

Who am I then? How do you know that?
With enough money and the right calls it would be fairly easy to figure out who you are and where you live.

Not that I care or will do so.

I'm not trying to brag, but the system works the way the system has always worked. Whatever happens on the internet can be traced to a specific address.

Now if you were actively hiding yourself and not just posting from your registered IP address, it would take more money and more calls, but it's still 99% possible.

I assume you have an e-mail address registered with AT, don't you?

I'd be just fine with it.

In fact, I personally don't think there should be anonymity on the web. The right to privacy does NOT include a right to anonymity.

Anonymity is why the web is so uncivil, and often dishonest. Translate the web to the real world and it would be like everyone running around in ski masks.

There is nothing wrong with people taking responsibility for what they say and do.

It would be annoying when doing a job hunt. That's the scariest thing I can think of. There's an ATOTer who can attest to that.

Heh, I love the ski masks visual.
