My wife is white, I'm black.

My parents didn't have a problem with it (mom 60, dad 61) and her parents didn't have a problem with it (mom 55, dad 56). The only ones that had an issue at first were her grandparents (both in their 80s). But they've since gotten over it and treat me like the rest of the family.

I guess it also helps that I knew my wife and her family for 6 years before we started dating.

My Dad would be fine. He's one of the most unracist people I've ever known. My Mom would act fine with it, but would be upset at heart...mostly because her father flat out told me once "don't you ever bring a (racial slur for a black person) home with you". And it wouldn't be because she is like that, she just wouldn't want to deal with the drama it would create.

Asian would probably be the safest, then Indian, then African American in terms of tolerance.

They wouldn't care. Unlike what happens if you run off with some douchebag and get married in Vegas without telling them (sister, three weeks ago). Then they care a whole hell of a lot.

My grandfather once told me I'd better not bring home any "Chinee" boyfriends from college or I wouldn't be allowed in his house. I told him that was ok, I didn't need to go in his house. He was not pleased with my answer.

I was effectively disowned when my (white) girlfriend moved in with me (Middle Eastern). There's a small amount of contact here and there by e-mail, mostly them telling me I'm selfish and to come around to their "reasonable" point of view.

Eh, what can you do. People don't always see the light and change. Sometimes they stick their heads even deeper into the ground and stick to it being the world's fault, not theirs. Ultimately you have to live life for yourself, not anyone else - so be happy with the actions you take. I am.

Mom has come to terms.

Wife still has not come to terms with the way that she was treated for 30+ years by them.
