Both my parents are long dead, so I don't think they'd give me too much trouble over it...BUT, I've been married over 35 years to the same white woman, and if something happened and I found my self single again...I would NOT get re-married...evar.

Parents wouldn't care at all...I'm just not usually attracted to women outside my race for whatever reason.

If my wife is black or mexican my parents would probably disapprove.

Im not attracted to asian girls at all too.

Hell my mom doesnt even like to get a tan because the darker you are the "poorer" you look.

Wow. That's pretty f'd up right there. Is there a royalty attitude hanging over that rich people sit inside and do nothing while slaves work outside or something?

Can't say I've ever heard that before. But then again I'm not Asian or anything remotely close to rich/weathly/entitled.

You've never heard of that really? Its kind of a cultural thing with Asians. We're not rich by any means (actually poor as fuck) but that's how Asians think. The darker you are, the less attractive you are. You're right though, it stems from royalty sitting doing nothing and the peasants working the rice fields.

Im Viet and my mom thinks like that. My girlfriend is Flip and she tells me that dark people are deemed less attractive and thats why on Flip TV shows they are all extremely white. Flip people also try to marry white people as well to get whiter babies.

my parents aren't angry racists... they'd be happy that I was happy, but there'd still be a ton of probably inappropriate racists questions ("would it be OK to have watermelon at the bbq?" "do we have to take our shoes off when we come over?" etc)

That's actually common across cultures.

White skin was valued in western cultures when being poor meant you most likely worked outside and wound up tan. The lighter the skin, the clearer it was that you had the leisure to not work.

As jobs have shifted in Western culture to indoor work, tans have gotten popular. Now being tan indicates that you have the leisure to lay around and not work, while pasty white skin means you're a cube monkey.

Nope, never heard of that. But then again, the only real contact I have with anyone Asian is at a Chinese restaurant. And that's not really an depth conversion about the quirky stereotypes their cultures have.

The midwest isn't exactly an Asian population hot spot.

Still never heard of it. Maybe I'm just too Irish or Blue Collar at root and never thought of it. And even still, the fact that people still hold that perception is pretty sad.

Yup. My grandmother (white) thought that way. She picked cotton most of her younger life.

Dad is gone but my mom would not be happy if I brought home or dated a 'colored' person.

"they wouldn't even notice he/she was another race"

I doubt that many here have two blind parents.

They wouldn't care.

My half-brother and half-sister both married people who are black and it hasn't phased my father or mother at all from what I can tell.

Ah, but to some of these, a white person is the holy grail. Otherwise, the darker your skin tone, the less these same Asian parents would approve.

I am glad that you said "to some of these" because there are plenty of Asian parents did not like their kids marry whites...friends are ok but not spouses..."white monkey" "pale ghost".."hairy chimp"...and so on...again, NOT all of them.

To me, my parents would not like it but they can't make me because I am on my own years ago.

Just before I left for college, my dad pulls me aside:

"Now son, I don't want to influence who you date or anything, but I would love it if you brought home a nice woman of another race, because multiracial children are just so beautiful, and genetically healthier."

That's strange for a father to say to son...
