You've never heard of that really? Its kind of a cultural thing with Asians. We're not rich by any means (actually poor as fuck) but that's how Asians think. The darker you are, the less attractive you are. You're right though, it stems from royalty sitting doing nothing and the peasants working the rice fields.

Im Viet and my mom thinks like that. My girlfriend is Flip and she tells me that dark people are deemed less attractive and thats why on Flip TV shows they are all extremely white. Flip people also try to marry white people as well to get whiter babies.

That's why they invented the Fair & Lovely cream

my parents wouldn't object on a racial basis as they are fairly open-minded. but differences in culture and language would be a barrier to true acceptance, especially for my mother who doesn't speak english. actually it would be kind of sad for her to not be able to communicate...

They would have been disappointed but ultimately it's up to their children to decide.

If you want your parents to be tolerant, just do what I do... bring home a goat. After that, they won't complain about you dating any race, I guarantee it. :sneaky:

My Dad who died 17 years ago probably would have a problem with it, but he seemed to have a problem with anyone us kids were involved with anyway. My Mom wouldn't have any problems.

Re: Asians--I'm not Asian, but from what I have seen/heard they are very Ethno-Centric. Even Marrying outside your Ethnicity often causes problems, like a Korean Marrying a Chinese person. So it's not necessarily "Racism" in the way that we understand it in the West.

I was told at an early age, "It's ok to play around with "others," but NEVER breed outside your own species..."

My mom would congratulate me.
My dad would warn me of the perils of marriage as an institution.

Guess you could compare that to an a western European married to an eastern European. One in the eyes of the other is "lower class". Same happens within European countries due to a bunch of reasons.

You should see what Hong Kongers think of mainland Chinese. The disdain is quite disturbing in this case.

what's that mean, it's ok to lick a cows balls, but don't try to fuck it?

That's fine if it turns you on, but sadly, there are still a lot of people who consider the different races to be different species of humans...

My parents were fine with it, but my grandparents on my father's side weren't. I received a rather upsetting letter from my grandfather a few weeks after I told them we were engaged. I still can't look at him quite the same anymore, and I feel it's really changed our relationship for the worst. Most people would think it's not a big deal, but I'm an only grandchild so it mattered.

My dad is dead and I don't think my mom would care. Although, the area I grew up in was predominantly white (literally 95%+), so in some ways she might not be used to a different ethnicity being around and her only exposure before that might've been in some of the silly TV stereotypes . I remember in high school, it was 100% white until 9th grade when there were... I think two black kids? Both all around good guys too.

Agree somewhat but I think it's more of a disdain for "hern ha" chinese (old country) vs mainland chinese who grew up more westernized.

Nope, they would prefer we all marry outside our race - and would be very dissappointed if we didnt.

They would not care at all. My brother has been dating a Hong Kong-born, Canadian-raised girl for about 4 years now, and I've dated an Indian and a Hong Kong girl myself.

My grandparents would be ok with it too, as my uncle married a Chinese woman (though born and raised in Canada), and she is very much accepted and loved as part of the family.

I'm pretty amazed by the racism here.

Ah, but to some of these, a white person is the holy grail. Otherwise, the darker your skin tone, the less these same Asian parents would approve.

Not really, a lot of asian parents would think white is unacceptable as well.
