I'm talking about the 13.3" 2.0ghz c2d ones. After the Thinkpad sale ended. I was thinking about getting a macbook instead for school (word, power point, simulations, compiling etc). Of course, the occasional warcraft 3 and sims2 would do fine also.

I had a regular core duo model and I loved it. Ended up selling it this past week and getting a PC laptop, although I still have an iMac at home. I needed a portable for work/school and both required Windows, so I was just using Windows on it all the time, seemed kind of silly. If you can get a good one, it's a great machine. Mine had various small problems like the random shutdown issue, but they were able to fix it at the Apple Store under warranty. There are lots of accessories for it too, bags, sleeves, screen cleaners, and so on. I have a website that I used to maintain with MacBook links, might help you out some:

http://macbook.wiredby.com

If you get the white one, definitely pick up an invisibleSHIELD since they scratch easily, like the white iPods. The black looks much better imo, but the white definitely says "Apple" and does look very, very nice. The new-style keyboard is really great and the MacBook has the only touchpad I've ever liked - large and easily programmable (two-finger tap = right click, for example). As far as gaming goes, just remember that it only has a 64mb integrated graphcs card.

Do you really think a Mac owner would admit to not liking a computer they just spent their kid's college fund on?

I love people that don't know anything about Macs and then bash them. My Macbook cost $1100. My college education costs $170,000. Those are close to being equal?? And $1100 is suddently expensive for a computer? I don't think so.

We bought my stepdad a macbook pro...amazing machine. The whole package (hardware, osx, soft) is incredibly sleek and polished. I'd imagine the macbook wouldn't be too far off... though I'd never get one, because of its calculator keyboard.

Oh yeah, if you're actually willing to spend extra $200 for the black one, you need to get your head checked.

Only reason I would buy a mac is for DVD studio pro, I have yet to use a DVD authoring software more intuitive and well laid out. Besides that I really have no reason to get one.

Honestly, im not sure if the MacBook can game very much. Due to it's integrated GMA950 graphics.

It's alright. Like James3shin said, it's integrated graphics. On the Windows side it can handle HL2 at a decent rez, but don't expect anything spectacular. 2D games are fine.

Just bought a C2D 2.0 Macbook on black friday after being a life long Windows user...

I love it, and I installed Windows on it via BootCamp. However, I rarely use Windows as the Mac OSX is so much better. It boots OSX in like 8 seconds, the machine is just awesome.

Ouch. Stephen Hawking's education didn't cost that much!

Ouch, I know. $43,000 a year for tuition + room and board + books. Standard price now actually. Booo.

i've never been a mac fan, but after spending a few minutes yesterday with my friend's new macbook i must say they look nice. with my student discount to the mac store the prices are vary comparable to pc notebooks of similar specs. i never thought i'd use a mac but now i'm beginning to consider it.

Unless your name is "Dr" NakaNaka, this is just cementing the stereotype that Apple owners pay too damned much for the same sh*t.

my roommate has one, and he likes it, but the guy across the hall also has one and he said it is starting to act up on him...freezing a couple times a day. hes no rocket scientist, but something tells me he isn't real kind to it.
