When I got my first degree (General Science), I interviewed for a sales job after they found my res on Monster and called me. I was offered the job but turned it down.
6 months before I got my CS degree, Intel flew me to Portland to attend one of their recruiting events and interview me. They had gotten my resume from Monster and contacted me. Three weeks after the interview, the company put a freeze on all new hiring. February 2001.
3 months before getting my CS degree, the IT manager at the nearby Kodak plant contacted one of my professors looking for students to do some part-time contract programming. My prof gave him my name and told him I was one of his best students. A week later they hired me on a contract basis. Pay was 3 times what I had ever made before but no benefits. One year later, I was offered a permanent position with full benefits. So I've been here 2.5 years now.
EDIT: I put my resume out on Monster and some other sites about a month ago just to see what else was out there and because I need to move to a bigger city for my wife's schooling needs. I've had 5 calls from recruiters or consulting companies who got my resume on Monster. Unfortunatel, two of the positions paid less than what I make now, and the other 3 were contract positions with no benefits. Since I just bought a house and have another baby on the way, I definitely can't do contract right now.
