Previous job (MicroCase): interviewed.

Current job (Respondus): recruited by VP from previous company.

MicroCase was acquired by Thomson Learning at the end of '99, I didn't feel like moving to Northern California so I turned down their offer to join them. After a few months of kicking back and doing a little part-time consulting, a VP from MicroCase asked me to join the startup company he was forming.

"Who you know" does help, but I got the Respondus offer because he knew I could do the job. He certainly wouldn't have spent his 401k money to pay me just because I'm a nice guy

Friend told me he had got a job at Boeing and said I should look into it so I did. I had an intervue, went to one of their pre-employment classes and was hired a few weeks after that. Almost 16 years ago.

I applied. Was initially rejected because I did not have enough Novell background. Fudged background a little. Got an interview. Interview was mostly about Novell crap. Was hired to work on Windows servers. Go figure.

This was actually the first job since college that I got by simply applying. All my other jobs were because of contacts I had made in the previous years. I am terrible at interviews so it has worked out pretty good.
